Saturday May 29
Fantastic weekend for College Soccer

This was the first week of 10 rounds of competition games. All teams have previously played three grading games.

Boys 1st XI – In the grading they won one, drew one and lost one game, thus qualifying for Division 3. Their first game was away against HBHS 6A. It was a very tight and closely fought game. At half time the score was locked at 0 – 0 with both teams playing well on the wet field but not finishing some good moves which put them in scoring chances. In the 15th minute of the second half Ian Marshall sent over a great cross which Chan Kim headed into the goal. With 5 minutes to go one of our players was fouled in the goal box giving us a direct penalty. Chan Kim fooled the goalie and calmly kicking the ball into the goal. So at full time Matamata took the win 2 – 0.

Boys 2nd XI – In the grading games the team lost their first game but bounced back to easily win their next two games. This put them into division 3. Their first competition game was home against Otorohanga. It was a very even game in the first half and the score was 0 – 0. The opposition had a five player defence and so we were finding it difficult to get into the goal box to score. So in the second half we started shooting from outside the box and in the end we won 4 – 2. Goals were scored by Michael Campbell, Bradley Roberts, Rhys Carmicheal and Michael Spencer.

Girls 1st XI – In the grading games the team was given a couple of hard games. They did improve each game but still lost all three games. As a result they were put into division 3. Their first competition game was a home match against Morrinsville. Matamata dominated the ball and as a result we were 2 – 0 up at half time . Things continued to go well for us in the second half and in the end we were 5 – 0 winners. Goal scorers were Leah Higgins 3, Rebecca Kingsford 2

Girls 1st XI – In the first grading game the opposition team did not turn up, so that was a sad start for the girls. In the next two games we won one and drew one. The team was placed into division 2.
The first competition game was a home match against Morrinsville. It was a very even game and the half time score of 1 – 1 reflected that. In the second half we scored again so the final result was 2 -1. Goals were scored by Maria Degele and Kirsty Eales.
