Blood streaming down his face, The Dynamic Kidd moans in pain.
Holding his collarbone, while his Valet. Sweet Lady D. wipes the blood from his forehead, The Dynamic Kidd smiles.
The locker room, in the back of Lawrence's Knights of Columbus Hall, is packed with bruisers from the Eastern Wrestling Alliance. But this night belonged to Lawrence's own The Dynamic Kidd
TDK, a Campus security officer by day in Wakefield, has had a love of wrestling since childhood. His love is more for the modern-age style of hardcore bloodbaths. That chilly wintery night in Lawrence was no different.
TDK stepped into the ring to a standing ovation of his hometown fans -- something a few months earlier he never believed would happen again. TDK was in a car accident this past summer, breaking his collarbone in two places, cracking his wrist and knocking himself unconscious. His injuries left a dark cloud over his future in wrestling.
"I was just so happy to get back out there," said the 37-year-TDK. "I was in some pain, my collarbone isn't 100 percent yet, but I couldn't let my fans down. When I was told we were coming to Lawrence, I had to make my return...I had to do it for my fans."
The Dynamic Kidd seemed right at home in the ring, taking on his opponent -- Mysterio -- in a chain match lasting over 20 minutes, but resulting in a bloody Dynamic Kidd.
"Wrestling is in my blood," said TDK, who left his native Puerto Rico for the United States in 1971. "It's all I have ever wanted to do. I am happy to just get out there and do my best. I know what the fans want to see, and I love giving them exactly what they want."
The Dynamic Kidd has the chance to shine again in front of the hometown crowd. TDK will take to the mat Friday at the Knight's of Columbus on Market Street as he wrestles for Chaotic Wrestling VS. Arch Kincaid
"I can't wait to get back to Lawrence and wrestle in front of my fans again," said TDK. "I get this extra boost of energy."
Spike Dudley in town
Extreme Championship Wrestling star Spike Dudley will be hitting the valley.
Dudley, one third of the Dudley Boys when the now WWF tag-team champions were in ECW, is scheduled for the Feb. 9 show (8 p.m.) at the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence. He is spending February touring with Chaotic Wrestling.
"It's unheard of that someone with name value or recognition wants to be a real part of a smaller venture," said Rich Palladino, a ring announcer for the company. "Usually guys just come in, sell their 8-by-10 glossies and autographs and leave."
On Friday's card will be Chaotic World Champion, The Extreme Strong Man Gino Martino; tag-team champs The One Night Stand -- Ronnie D.Lishus and Edward G.Xtasy; midget champion Short Sleeve Sampson and Master Sandy, a body building woman in the mold of WWF's Chyna.
Others on the card include local grapplers Latin Fury Luis Ortiz and The Dynamic Kidd, of Lawrence.
Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance, $5 for children 6 and under. Tickets, scheduling and information on Chaotic Wrestling can be found at www.chaoticwrestling.com.
