Episode 39: "The Real Father"

Written by: Yaniv Shlamberg, Rike Sommerfeld, Sascha Chrétien, Yael Shevach and Herbert Hensley.

Back at Sammy Jo's bedroom

"What did you say?" Sammy Jo couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"Your precious Jim is sterile. He didn’t want any kids!” Anne screamed.

“What?” Ashley and Danny asked both amazed as all eyes turned to Jim.

Sammy Jo looked at him, shocked, for the first time seeing him totally differently.

"I'm sorry, but it's the truth. She had the right to know!" Anne turned to Jim.

"Sammy Jo, I can explain!" Jim pleaded.

“Fine! You have a lot of explaining to do! Krystle would you tell everyone the wedding is off?" Sammy Jo turned to Krystle.

"No, Sammy Jo, please! I made some mistakes, okay? But we can get over it!" Jim tried.

"Oh, no! You are not going to get away with it this time!" Steven interfered.

"Shut up, Carrington, it's between Sammy Jo and me!" Jim lunged at him.

"No, it's not! It's between you and me! I’m holding you to our pact. It’s your turn to get lost. You are going to leave Sammy Jo alone and get out of our lives!" this time it was Steven's turn to attack. Krystle looked at Sammy Jo for confirmation. Sammy Jo nodded.

"Come on, guys, let's go." Krystle said to Danny and Ashley. Danny looked at Steven. It was obvious the boy was happy. He then turned around and walked out with Ashley and Anne. Steven remained standing there, staring at Jim.

"What are you looking at? You are out too!" Jim sharked at him.

"I'm not going anywhere anymore!" Steven attacked back.

"Steven, please. I want to talk to Jim alone." Sammy Jo said. Steven hesitated for few moments and then walked out, leaving Sammy Jo and Jim alone.

The Carrington Mansion

Blake couldn’t believe his ears and stared and frowned at Patricia. Then he looked at the young man, who was still standing over at the window, smiling at him. “He’s our son,” echoed Patricia’s voice in Blake’s head.

“Is this some kind of joke?” Blake finally asked, when he found his voice again. He was completely dazed. A whole bunch of questions were suddenly buzzing in his head.

Patricia, who could tell that he was obviously very confused, stepped closer to Blake and looked him in his eyes. She was nervous as well and her heart was beating fast.

“No, it’s not. It’s the truth. William is our son!” A loving look fell on William, as she finally said those words aloud what she had meant to say for so long. Maybe now every mystery would be revealed and cleared. “I know you must have a lot of questions...” Patricia continued carefully, but Blake cut her sharply.

“Oh, you bet I have!” He was staring at her now with an angry look on his face. How could Patricia just come into his house telling him that they have a son together? Why hadn’t she informed him earlier? Or was this whole thing really just a bad game, like Krystle and Fallon had predicted? Either way, Blake had not expected such an action from Patricia. A so-called friend who had come back to Denver, after so many years looking for help when she was standing at the edge of ruin.

Patricia swallowed dryly when she realized how upset Blake was. She hadn’t expected this to be easy, but she had hoped that Blake would be understanding.

“Why don’t the three of us sit down and I will explain everything,” Patricia suggested and made a move towards the sofa.

“No,” Blake replied. “I would like to talk to you alone.”

“But I think it might be better...” Patricia tried, looking at her son.

“I said no, Patricia.” Blake repeated louder. “This is something between me and you in the first place.” Then he turned to William. “Would you please give your mother and me a moment alone, Mr.....William?” Blake asked, but avoided looking the young man in the face. He could still remember the moment when he had learned that Adam was his real son; but Blake also remembered the doubts and sleepless nights he had back then as well.

William didn’t move for another few seconds, but looked at Blake. So, this was his real father. The man he was determined to meet since the day his step-parents told him that he was adopted. It hadn’t taken William long to find his biological mother, Patricia Harrison. And after she had explained everything from the beginning on, he realized that it wouldn’t be easy to get to his real father; but now that he was here, he only felt rejection. He had to admit, that he hadn’t expected much enthusiasm from the patriarch. Why should he be interested in him, William, anyway? Blake Carrington already had a family and certainly had no interest whatsoever in welcoming his “bastard” son in his life. After all, William hadn’t existed for Blake the last twenty-five years. Why bother now? All he would most probably do is to pay him and his mother off and ask them to leave again. Even though, Patricia had told him over and over again that Blake Carrington was a fine man, William doubted very much that this story would have a happy end. Without a word, but hugely disappointed he left the room.

“Wait for me outside,” Patricia whispered to him as he passed her by. It almost broke her heart when she saw the expression in his face.

“And now you better have a really good explanation for all this!” Blake said to Patricia after William had left the room.

Dexter International

Scarlet approached Dex self-confidently. “I want you to meet your daughter ... our daughter,” she stated with a soft smile.

Unbelieving, Dex stared at the sleeping baby in her arms. He struggled to come up with something ... anything ... to say, but he couldn’t. Dex was completely flustered. Scarlet had caught him off guard. He looked up at her while flashbacks of their short but passionate affair flew through his mind. Damn it! That couldn’t be true. He saw their affair as a matter of temporary convenience without any commitments. All he had wanted was sex and companionship for a few hours in a difficult time of his life, nothing more.

He was afraid about the mess the new situation would create. What had he done? He had made another woman pregnant. How would Alexis react when she learns about it? There was no way he could hide the news in front of her ... or was there? “Oh God, I can’t lose her again,” he thought, praying this was all a bad dream and he would immediately wake up.

Scarlet could sense the panic rising through Dex’s body. His face was tense and his eyes looked shocked. “It is okay, Dex,” she calmed him, showing understanding. “I like you, but I already guessed our time together wasn’t forever. And if you think I’m just after your money or I tried to trap you into marriage, you are wrong. I’m not like that. I never wanted to disrupt your life.”

Dex stepped away from her and approached the window. Slowly he turned around. “Are you absolutely sure she is mine?” He asked hesitantly.

Scarlet didn’t answer right away, but her face went angry. “I don’t sleep around. Of course, I’m sure who the father of my child is,” she finally said.

Dex felt ashamed. “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean it that way,” he apologized and Scarlet accepted his apology.

There was no option; Dex knew he had to face the consequences of his affair.

The Construction site

At the time Dex was receiving the shock of his life, LB got his when he arrived at the construction site. There was no sign to the big project Denver-Carrington was building in downtown Denver. The place was one big chaos: ambulances were everywhere, evacuating injured people who got hurt in the crash; the people of the rescue unit of the fire department rescued people who were buried under the destroyed building and a few photographers who heard about the tragedy were already there taking pictures of the rescuing process while reporters were broadcasting live to their networks, describing the awesome tragedy. LB was standing aside looking around paralyzed with shock. He couldn't believe it.

Inside the site, two officers helped Adam Carrington get out from the car he was stuck inside with Dana. They pulled him outside and made sure he was fine.

"Are you okay, sir?" the officer asked Adam, who was still shocked.

"Dana… Dana, where is Dana?" he called out.

"She was there with you, sir?" the officer called, barely able to hear anything over all the yelling around.

"Yes, yes!" Adam yelled back as they heard someone choking from inside the destroyed car. "Dana! Dana!" Adam yelled.

"Don't worry sir, we'll get her out," the officer tried to calm him, and together with another man they began looking for Dana.

In the meantime, outside, one of the reporters recognized LB. "This is Mr. Colby, Blake Carrington's grandson!" She called and all the reporters and photographers ran toward the Colby boy. Before he could realize what was happening, LB found himself circled by the mob. "Mr. Colby? Do you have any idea what happened here today?" the lady asked anxiously, holding the microphone right into his face.

"Could it be a terrorist attack, Mr. Colby?" another reporter asked.

"Is there anyone of your family in there, Mr. Colby?" another one asked him. LB looked at them, not knowing what to say as Adam showed up running to the ambulance with Dana lying in stretcher.

"No comment, excuse me!" LB said eventually and ran toward Adam. "Uncle Adam!" he yelled. Adam turned as the paramedic put Dana inside the ambulance. "What happened? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, but Dana isn't!" Adam called.

"What happened?"

"Look for yourself, it's pretty obvious!" Adam answered him coldly. "I must go to the hospital with her." Adam said and entered in the back seat of the ambulance, sitting next to Dana and the paramedic.

"Where is John, Adam?" LB asked, still shocked.

"I don’t know, but you better call you father. You lost some of your men. You are in deep trouble!" Adam called as the driver closed the ambulance's doors and drove away, leaving LB alone in the middle of the anarchy.

Back at Delta Rho

Steven watched the guests leave as he entered the house. He had just seen the twins; they had grown so much since he had last seen them. Everything was still a blur. He headed back to Sammy Jo’s room hoping to talk to her. He hoped Jim was out of her life for good this time. He found Danny, Ashley, and Anne standing outside. The door was still closed. Everyone was wondering what was really going on in there.

“So Steven suggested the pact. Changing the test result seemed too easy. That way you’d be mine and Steven would be out of you life for good. It was his idea. I just… ” Jim explained.

“So you just took Steven’s children from him, lied to the people who love you, and risked your career!” Sammy Jo shook her head.

“Sammy Jo, I did it all for you!” Jim tried to touch her, but she backed away.

“I really thought you changed, but you haven’t. You knew all along the babies weren’t yours.” Sammy Jo headed for the door.

“Sammy Jo, wait. Please, I’m sorry!” Jim pleaded.

“I don’t ever want to see or speak to you again. Take your stuff and leave!” Sammy Jo headed for the door.

“Sammy Jo, please!” Jim pleaded as Sammy Jo stepped downstairs. "We can start fresh, okay? Come on!" he said. Sammy Jo opened the door as Steven, Anne, Danny, and Ashley went after her.

"Out!" She yelled at him. Jim looked at Steven, then at Sammy Jo.

"It's not over yet!" he said, and then turned around and walked out.

"Jim, Jim!" Anne called and stormed out after him.

"Finally," Steven said relieved, looking at Sammy Jo.

"I'm sorry, Sammy Jo. I had no idea," Ashley told Sammy Jo.

"Me too, Ashley. Me too," she replied.

The Carrington Mansion

Krystle had to be careful not to cause an accident, while she was driving home. Her head was spinning. She was still confused by the incident at the wedding. Finally it had seemed that Sammy Jo was going to be happy again and her world would get back in order. Then Steven’s sudden appearance and that woman’s statement about Jim, who obviously had fooled everybody changed that. Now, above everything, Blake was missing. Krystle had tried to call him several times, but he had never answered. In all the hurry Krystle completely forgot to call the mansion, because she had assumed that Blake must be on his way.

“Damn,” she said as she slammed her mobile on the seat beside her. Now that she finally tried to call home, the connection went dead before it even connected.

Back in the mansion, William was standing on the top of the staircase and listened to the silence. He couldn’t stop looking at the splendor that surrounded him. It had only really hit him now, that his father was one of the richest men in the world and lived in a not less fitting environment. William still felt as if he was somewhere in a movie or in a dream. He had already been amazed by the luxury his mother lived in, but this here was a hundred times more pompous. The floor was of solid marble, all furniture was antique and only the best and finest art decorated the walls and the little niches. Even though William, who had grown up in a simple family, didn’t understand much about art and grand style, he was immediately fascinated by it. But at the same time he felt uncomfortable when he thought that he might once have lived here. He felt his stomach tighten when he imagined himself standing at this very banister, wearing a Prada-Suit. Feeling the newest Rolex model on his wrist, waiting for his freshly polished car to be delivered ... being a Carrington inheritor.

But at the moment it seemed that William would never have to think about those kind of problems. His parents were still gone and had left him alone in the big mansion. Every now and then, a servant swept by smiling friendly but distant at the young man. William himself tried to act as confident as possible and somewhere deep down inside he did not forget that he actually was a Carrington. The silence was interrupted when William heard the front door open. He turned around and saw a beautiful, ash blonde- haired woman hurrying into the hall. From Patricia’s description, William already knew that she was beautiful, but only now did he realize how right she had been.

“Blake?” Krystle called after the door shut behind her. She didn’t notice the young man that was watching her from above. “Blake?” Krystle called again and this time William recognized the apprehension in her voice.

“He’s not here.” William eventually replied after he had found his courage. Krystle turned around, at first not realizing where the voice was coming from. She frowned when she spotted the young man at the top of the stairs who was walking towards her now.

“Who are you?” Krystle asked a bit harshly and was surprised to find a stranger wandering around in her house.

“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to scare you,” William replied and extended his hand to Krystle. “My name is William.”

Krystle was even more confused now. Was she supposed to know this man? “Are you a friend of the family?” she asked in disbelief.

“Um, I don’t think so...well, not yet, but I hope to become one soon,” William said and had to oppress a little laugh at the thought of being a “friend”. Krystle still didn’t understand what he was saying, but that was the least of her problems now. Probably he was one of the kids’ friends, and all that she wanted to know now, anyway, was where her husband was.

“Have you seen my husband?” she asked desperately hoping for a clear answer.

“Actually I have. Up until half an hour ago we were still in the library, but then...”

“Where is he now?” Krystle cut him impatiently, but the young man shrugged.

“I don’t know, but as far as I know he and my mother went outside.”

Before Krystle could say something, she felt her throat tightening. “Your mother?” Krystle exclaimed and somehow wasn’t sure if she really wanted to hear what the man had to say. William's eyes dilated what he had just said.

“Who is your mother?” Krystle’s tone sounded sharp now.

“Patricia Harrison,” William finally said.

Krystle’s jaw dropped as she heard this name coming from William’s mouth. “Patricia?!” Then there was a pause and Krystle took a concentrated look at William’s face. “I don’t understand. She never said a word about a son.” Krystle was completely confused now. “Why is she here and what is going on?” she demanded to know.

“Well, this is rather a long story...” William tried carefully.

“I don’t have time for long stories now. I want to know where my husband is!” Krystle almost shouted.

“As I said, I don’t know but I think they left the house. Why don’t we go to the library and wait for them to return?” William suggested and hoped that Krystle would calm down.

“No!” came the quick reply. “I’m going to look for him now.” Then Krystle turned around and started for the door. “This is the last time she’s going to play games with us and try to seduce Blake with her lies,” she added.

“I think you’re mistaken,” William called after her. He knew his mother had made some mistakes, but he didn’t feel that Krystle had the right to call his mother a lying seductress.

Krystle turned on her heels again, “What?”

“I said I think you’re mistaken. My mother did not come here to spread any lies, but to finally reveal the truth,” William stated. “I’ve come a long way and so has my mother. And I don’t want her to be called a liar when she says that I’m Blake Carrington’s son!”

This was like a slap in Krystle’s face. She couldn’t believe what William had just said, just like Blake couldn’t a few moments ago. Before she could think straight again, Krystle realized that this was Patricia’s worst game ever. Her heart was bumping fast now and she got even angrier. “How dare you?” she whispered. “Please leave this house immediately or I’ll call the police,” she added quickly and turned around. She didn’t want William to see the tears that were showing in her eyes.

“Get out!” she shouted and poor William realized that he had messed up the whole situation with his eagerness. Without another word he stormed outside, leaving desperate Krystle standing alone in the silence of the big house.

Outside at the garden

“I can’t believe you kept this as your secret for such a long time,” Blake said angrily after Patricia had told him the whole story about their son William. She told him about the shocking moment when she had learned that she was pregnant. It was only two weeks after she had vanished from Denver and found a shelter home of one of her friends in Canada. After the bitter experience of what had happened in Denver there suddenly was now a child growing inside of her. And instead of feeling happy, Patricia had been devastated. She had wanted children with Blake, but certainly not under such circumstances. Everything she wanted to offer her child, a mother and a father, a caring family and security was gone now. So instead of the ultimate gift in her life, the blessing of a child had become the biggest burden.

“Blake, why can’t you understand?” Patricia asked in despair as she wrenched her hands. “I had no other choice. I couldn’t return to Denver. I didn’t have anybody and I would never have gone through an abortion.” Then she stopped and looked into Blake’s eyes, “I just knew one thing. I would never let my child ... our child get hurt. So after I had halfway cleared my head I knew that I would give him up for adoption, so that he would get what every child deserves: a family that loves and cares for him, the way that you and I should have cared for him.” Tears were rolling down her face now and she didn’t try to hide them.

“How could you live with that all those years?” Blake repeated, shaking his head, but now his voice was much softer and he felt what Patricia must have gone through.

“Oh, believe me, there were times when I thought I couldn’t. There was not one day I spent without thinking of him and you. I went through hell when they took my little baby from me. I was sure I was never going to see him again.”

“But eventually you did,” Blake said and handed Patricia a tissue.

“When William called me for the first time, I thought it was a mean prank, but when I finally saw him, I immediately knew it was him. His parents had decided to tell him the truth about the adoption and wanted to give him the choice to find out who his real parents are. And he did.”

“Why has it taken you so long to tell him the truth about his father? Why didn’t you speak with me first?” Blake asked and still couldn’t quite figure out what had been going on in Patricia’s mind.

“Blake, I knew who you were and I knew that you have your own family. I couldn’t just grab him, come here and present him to you for Christmas. I didn’t even know if you hated me or not, so ...”

“So you invented your own little plan and tried to get to me with your financial problem?!” Blake could never stand people who were playing such kind of games with him.

“No, it wasn’t like that, I just ...”

“Yes it was, Patricia,” Blake cut her sharply. “Instead of coming straight to me and telling me the truth, you brought a lot of turmoil into my life and Krystle’s. I don’t understand this,” Blake said angrily and made a gesture with his hand.

“I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you or Krystle, but I thought I did the right thing and I still think so. Yet this shouldn’t be about us now, this should be about William.”

After a moment of silence, Blake sighed and shook his head. “Listen, Patricia, I need some time to think now. This whole story is very confusing.”

“You have to talk to him.” Patricia pleaded.

“I can’t, not right now,” Blake replied and started walking back to the house, but Patricia grabbed his arm. “Alright. I understand, but please Blake, promise me that you will talk to him later. Promise me.” Blake could see the desperation in Patricia’s eyes, but when he thought about how this could change his life and his family’s, he wished that Patricia had never returned to Denver.

The Memorial Hospital

Although it had only been a few short hours ago that Miles was discussing with Monica about his future with Amanda, it felt like it had been days.

Amanda sat in an uncomfortable vinyl chair in the waiting room. Her arms were wrapped around herself as if she were giving herself comfort. Monica, on the other hand, paced back and forth like a caged animal.

Miles had been brought there after he collapsed a few short hours ago. The only notice the two women had been given was that he was in critical condition but was receiving the best possible care.

At long last his physician came out and greeted Monica and Amanda.

“Doctor!” Monica called out and rushed to him. “How is my brother?” she asked, with Amanda now by her side.

“I’m afraid Mr. Colby has suffered a mild stroke,” he announced.

“What? How?”

“Oh, my God! Is he alright?”

“Ladies, please,” the doctor said, trying to calm them so he could give them a report. “We think he is okay.”

“You think?” Monica hissed. “What do you mean ‘you think’?”

“Ms. Colby, please,” the doctor interjected. “As you are probably aware of, a stroke is any interruption of the blood supply to the brain. Yes, there are times when there is brain damage due to the loss of the blood’s supply to the brain, but you got your brother here quickly. Right now, we don’t know … and won’t know until he wakes up.”

“Oh, no, brain damage,” Amanda repeated.

“It’s okay, Amanda,” Monica said, wrapping her arms around Amanda. “Miles is strong.”

“Ms. Colby, Ms. Carrington, I suggest you both get some rest. I’ll call you if there is any change.”

“Thank you, Doctor, but we’ll stay.”

Amanda returned to her seat. She gripped the arms of the chair until her knuckles turned white. Monica was right, Miles is strong, but he has been through so much. How much more could Miles go through?

Monica, meanwhile, retrieved her cell phone and dialed Sable’s number again. “Come on, Mother,” she pleaded. “Answer the damn phone.”

The sound of Monica slapping the cell shut brought Amanda back to the present. She had allowed herself to lose herself in her thoughts, deep in her love for Miles.

“I still can’t reach Mother,” Monica said. She handed the phone to Amanda. “Do you want to try Jeff and Fallon again?”

“Yes, thank you. Maybe Fallon knows where Sable is,” and Amanda began dialing the familiar number of home.

The ER

The emergency room at the memorial hospital was chaotic. Doctors and nurses were running from one room to another. Injuries were moved hastily to the trauma units, and people who heard about the tragedy came to the hospital looking for their relatives. One of them was Jeff Colby, who heard about the accident from his son. He entered to the ER looking for LB. Eventually, he found him next to the nurses workstation trying to get more information about his staff.

"I told you, young man, I can't give you the information if you are not related!" the nurse told LB who seemed still very upset.

"I just want to know if my foreman is here, can’t you check this? Please!" he begged, as Jeff approached them. "Dad!" LB called excitedly.

"What is going on?"

"I'm trying to find John, but nobody is willing to talk to me here," the boy explained. Jeff turned to the nurse.

"Nurse, I'm Jeff Colby, Denver Carrington CEO. We need to find our foreman, it's critical," he asked politely, but before the nurse could answer, Adam showed up behind them.

"You are wasting your time, he isn't here!" he announced.

LB and Jeff turned to him, "Adam! Do you have any idea what is going on here. Where is John?" Jeff asked.

"We were together at the site when it happened, but then he disappeared. The police are looking for him," Adam explained.

"The police?" LB didn't understand.

"Well, yes, they're here asking questions. I'm telling you, Jeff. It looks bad. We have many injured. We lost five men," he announced.

"Dear God!" Jeff said in amazment.

"How is Dana?" LB asked.

"She suffered some minor injuries, but she'll be fine. The doctor says she was very lucky. Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky. More then fifty crew members were injured. Most of them suffered bad injuries," Adam said. He was upset too. He didn't think John would go so far, and he hoped nobody would find him. He knew that he could lead the police straight to him.

"Someone has to tell Grandpa about this," LB said worried. He didn't want to let down the old man. It seemed now that he wouldn't be the only one to be disappointed. LB saw Jeff's eyes. He knew his father had many questions.

"Mr. Carrington," two police detective approached Adam.

"Yes, gentlemen, this is my brother-in-law Jeff Colby and his son LB. LB is the one in charge at the construction site," Adam quickly said. Jeff looked at him mad. Adam was upset, of course, but he couldn't ignore the feeling he felt that his brother-in-law was gloating.

"Mr. Colby, I'm Detective Friedman, this is my partner Detective Robbins. We are investigating the crash at your construction site," he told LB. "From what we gathered from your uncle and from other witnesses, there wasn't any explosion at the site before the whole place collapsed." He said. "And though we still haven't talked to your foreman, we realize that it was a terrible accident." He continued. "Do you know anything in particular that could have led to such a tragedy?" he asked the young man.

"No, as far as I know, everything worked fine. The foundation was stable and strong," LB said and Jeff hushed him. He didn't want his son to say nothing more before they had their investigation.

"Well, we are also checking into the possibility that it was intentional destruction, but it's too early to say what happened exactly this early into our investigation. We are still checking other avenues, but again, we'll be in touch. Stay around; we might have more questions for you," Detective Friedman said, and with that they turned around and left.

White Hill Apartments

Fallon woke up alone and groggy. She looked around the room, unsure of her surroundings. She got up out of the bed and staggered to the door.

Entering the living room, she was still unsure. Where am I? What am I doing here?

Then it all came flooding back to her. Of course, she thought to herself, I was on my way to confront Roman.

She was about to leave when she heard keys in the lock, opening the front door. Quickly, she looked around the room for something, anything, she could use as a weapon. Spying a rather large vase, she grabbed it and hid behind the door.

The door opened and a dark-haired man entered the room. As the door closed, Fallon stepped out of hiding and smashed the vase against the back of the man’s head and he fell to the floor.

The man was stunned, but not as stunned as Fallon when she saw the face of her ex-lover, John Zorelli. “Zorelli! Oh, my God!” Fallon exclaimed. “Are you alright?”

“Ouch! That smarts! Damn, Fallon, couldn’t we have settled on a handshake? Or a kiss on the cheek!” Zorelli asked.

Fallon laughed in spite of herself. Zorelli hadn’t changed at all. She helped him to his feet and to the couch. “Let me get you some ice,” she offered. “Zorelli, you have some explaining to do.”

As Fallon packed ice for Zorelli’s aching head, he explained to her that he now works for the FBI and was in Denver trailing Roman and hoped to bust his international crime syndicate. “… and I need your help,” he said.

“Oh, you’ve got it,” Fallon agreed. “I want rid of Roman once and for all. Just let me tell Sable first and then …”

“Sable? Sable Colby? Uh-huh. No way.”

“Why?” Fallon asked.

“The fewer the people who know, the better. I want to play this out Fallon.”

“But!” Fallon interjected.

“No buts!” Zorelli said. “He’s too dangerous.”

Fallon pleaded. “Sable will be in danger!”

“She already is.”

Delta Rho

Steven made sure the twins were sleeping and then went downstairs to the living room. The tables and chairs were still there with the decorations and the flowers. He looked around and wondered where Sammy Jo could be.

"Sammy Jo? Sammy Jo!" he called when he found her at the bar, drinking. "Stop that. Come on, it won't solve anything," he tried to take the scotch bottle from her but she didn't give it up. She took two glasses and poured scotch into it.

"To us, Steven! To our lonely miserable lives!" she announced and emptied her glass. Steven hesitated for one moment, but then joined her and drank it. She looked at him and began laughing.

"What? What's so funny?" he asked.

"You and me. We are quit a team, don't you think?" She was amused. Steven stared at her and then laughed as well. They sat down and laughed for minutes, until a knock on the door interrupted them. "I'm coming, hold on!" she called and headed to the door. "Judge Peterson!" she called in surprise.

“Hello, Sammy Jo, sorry I’m late. What’s going on?” the judge approached and Steven got up and joined them.

“There’s been a change of plans,” Sammy Jo announced and then turned to Steven.

“Time to live up to your promises…” she smiled at her ex-husband.

Jim's Apartment

Jim was still depressed. He tried to call Sammy Jo over and over again, but there was no answer. He lay down on the couch and moaned. Anne entered the living room and served him a cup of coffee.

"Take it, it might help," she said. Jim looked at her, took the cup, and then smashed it against the wall. The coffee spread all over.

Anne looked at him. She had seen him upset before, but never like this. "What is wrong with you, for God's sake!" she exclaimed.

"What's wrong with me? I'll tell you exactly what's wrong with me, Anne! I was about to marry the woman I love. I finally found some peace with a wonderful woman and two great kids – the family I wanted for so long, but you had to come here and ruin everything with you big mouth!" he shouted at her.

"Oh, come on! You never wanted kids! You hate kids! I did you a favor!" she said. "I stopped you from making the biggest mistake of your life!" she announced.

"No, you were the biggest mistake in my life, Anne! Damn you! Damn you!" he stood up and attacked her as the door opened and Ashley stormed in, slamming the door behind her.

"Thank God you are here!" Jim approached her, expecting Ashley to take his side in the argument with her mother.

"Why didn't you tell me you faked the results? How could you do that, Jim?" Ashley condemned him.

"What? Ashley, you knew how much I wanted Sammy Jo. You knew I would do anything to win her!" Jim was surprised.

“Within limits I trust you, Jim! I believed you and supported you, right, but I never thought you would do something so cruel to Sammy Jo and Steven!" she shouted.

"Steven had his chance with Danny and Sammy Jo! He blew it! It was my turn now. Come on, Ashley. You know how much I love Sammy Jo and want to be with her. There was no other way!"

"So you lied? My God, you can't have children! You lied to me too!"

"I couldn't tell you. Try to understand," Jim tried.

"No, Jim. I can't. I'm sorry, but this is too much. Just too much!" the girl exclaimed.

"Well, I'm glad my daughter is on my side for a change." Anne smiled satisfied, but Ashley wasn't smiling at all.

"Which side, Mother? The one that is constantly interfering in people's lives and sabotaging their happiness? How can you live with yourself, mother? Ruining people's lives over and over again!" she yelled at her.

"It was the right thing to do!" Anne excused herself.

"Yes, for you maybe! From the moment you heard Jim was about to marry Sammy Jo you took the first flight and came over determined to ruin his life! It doesn’t work like that you know, you can't play with our lives and then vanish when everything is smashed!"

"Ashley, please calm down!" Jim tried and reached his hand to her, but she rejected him.

"No, don't touch me, Jim!"

"I know you are upset right now, we all are. We just need to sit down and relax, okay? Where are your things? I'll help you unpack them," he suggested, looking for her suitcase.

"No, Jim. I'm not moving back here. Forget that," she announced.

"Don't be foolish, Ashley. You have no place to go," Anne turned to her.

"She's right for a change." Jim said. "Come on Ashley. It's just a bad day, that's all. Everything will look differently tomorrow, you'll see. Now let's go to your room."

"No, Jim. You can give Mother that room – you two deserve each other!" she announced and then stormed out of the flat.

The Carrington Mansion

In all the trouble and turmoil, Blake had completely forgotten about Krystle and Sammy Jo’s wedding. Now that he was hurrying back to the house, he suddenly saw himself confronted with the fact that he would have to talk to Krystle soon. He didn’t want her to learn about this from somebody else. Of course, he did not know that it was already too late.

In the living room, Krystle was sitting in a chair and stared outside the window. After she had thrown out William, she needed to sit down. This had been too much for her. Like Blake a couple of hours ago, a million thoughts were spinning in her head. She asked herself why she hadn’t insisted of removing Patricia out of the Carringtons’ lives instead of going through all of this.

“Krystle?” Blake said surprised as he entered the room and spotted his wife. She immediately stood up and walked towards her husband. On her face, he could see that Krystle was upset and he feared the worst, but before he could ask what was wrong, he understood as Krystle almost spat out: “What the hell is going on, Blake? Where are Patricia and that man?”

“They’re gone,” Blake said and sighed heavily. Obviously Krystle had somehow learned about the whole incident. When he touched her shoulder, Blake could feel that Krystle was shaking and her eyes were sparkling from anger. “Krystle, I’m really sorry. I had absolutely no idea that Patricia...”

“I have told you so many times,” Krystle shouted at him. “I knew she wouldn’t stop playing those games. First, those mysteries around her, then the kiss and now she’s even trying to make you believe that she has a son by you!”

“I’m sure there is a reasonable answer to this. I have just talked to Patricia...”

This was it: Krystle couldn’t hear that name anymore. “Patricia, Patricia, Patricia! It's all you recently think about, Blake,” she shouted even angrier now. “And while you’re letting yourself be lulled in by her lies, you don’t realize that part of your family is falling apart!”

“What are you talking about?” Blake replied and frowned. Had he really being paying too much attention to Patricia recently? Was Krystle perhaps right and he had been blind?

“Well, if you hadn’t spent the afternoon here, talking to your ex-girlfriend, then you might have been at Delta Rho and witnessed Sammy Jo calling the wedding off!” Krystle replied harshly.

“What?” Blake couldn’t believe that much more could go wrong that day.

“Yes, Sammy Jo called the wedding off. Steven and Jim’s ex-wife showed up before the ceremony and claimed that Jim was not the twins’ father.”

“Not the father? Why? I thought the results proved it.” Blake could have sworn that this day must be cursed. The bad news just kept coming in.

“If you would have been there you would know,” Krystle barked back. She knew she was being hysteric, but at some point she couldn’t and didn’t want to help it. She had kept her mouth shut for too long now.

“Krystle, please calm down and then let’s talk,” Blake pleaded.

“I don’t want to talk, Blake!” Krystle still shouted energetically and her face was now red with anger. “I just want this woman out of our lives for once and...” But before Krystle could finish the sentence little stars appeared in front of her eyes and her head started buzzing. Eventually everything darkened and she collapsed on the floor.

“Krystle!” Blake shouted and immediately knelt on the floor and touched her face. “Krystle! Krystle, talk to me!” but Krystle didn’t open her eyes
