The dress, by CC, is navy silk organza, with an ivory stylised flower print, layered over a plain navy under dress. The centre of each flower is decorated with ivory bugle beading. I wanted a dress that would stand alone as a cocktail dress for the party, but would look well with a jacket for in church. The jacket, from the same collection, is an ivory silk/linen mix, embroidered with navy flowers, to contrast with the dress. I was worried that the negative effect would look too fussy and detract from the outfit, but I was pleased with the effect as Mother of the Groom - I definitely stood out amongst the guests! I took the jacket off once we reached the Reception.
The navy satin sandals were from Clark's. They had a diamante trim and were exactly the same shade as the embroidery on the jacket. The "bullet" bag was from Coast, and was covered in bugle beads the same as on the dress. After some agonising about "shall I shan't I" wear something in my hair - knowing none of the Americans would, but egged on by all my friends at home who thought as Groom's Mother I should - I bought an ivory organza fascinator from BHS. Originally on a broad satin alice band, I took it off and put it on a narrow gold wire one instead, that could be almost hidden in my hair, whilst anchoring the flower firmly in place so I wouldn't have to fiddle with it. I kept it on most of the evening, but eventually took it off.
