Edasseri
Govindan Nair (1906-1974) is ever remembered as the leading light of the
post-independence modern Malayalam poetry. As a poet, playwright and social activist he endeared himself to all
classes of people. Edasseri Memorial Committee was constituted at Ponani (the place where the poet lived and worked for many years) on December 24, 1978, one day after the poet’s 72nd birth anniversary. The Committee was inaugurated at a function held at the Kerala Sahitya
Akademi Hall, Thrissur by late
V.T. Bhattathiripad, renowned social reformer, orator and dramatist. The founder Secretary was the famous poet Shri Kadavanad Kuttikrishnan and the Treasurer Mahakavi Akkitham Achyuthan
Namboothiri. At present the Committee has as its office bearers a group of poets and intellectuals led by Mahakavi Akkitham Achyuthan Namboothiri (President), Prof.
K.P. Sankaran (Vice-President), Shri P. Krishna Warriyar (Secretary), Shri E. Raman Master & Shri Madhavan Pottekkat (Joint Secretaries) and Shri
T.K. Mohammed (Treasurer). The first Committee Members include
well-known Malayalam writers Uroob (P.C.Kuttikrishnan), Pavanan,
P.K.A.Rahim, K.V. Ramakrishnan, C.P.Sreedharan, N.N.Thalappil,
Dr.K.K.Rahulan, P.T. Narendra Menon, M.R.Bhattathiripad, E.Raman etc.
