 ArtsAction launched the inaugural Gawler Art Awards in July of 2002. The award attracted more than 100 Artists and Craftspeople who entered more than 240
individual artworks.
Culminating in an exhibition, which was held in the Masonic Lodge Hall on the corner of Union street and Lyndoch road, Gawler on
November 2 and 3, 2002. The event was seen as a major success for the Arts community and the wider Gawler and districts community.
The Exhibition was officially opened by Gawler's Mayor, Tony Piccolo, at 11am on November 2nd. Tony also
presented the awards with the assistance of several of the Awards major sponsors.
Artworks were judged in specific categories including; 2D Original Art, 3D Original Art, Hanging Textile and
Youth. All entrants also had the opportunity to win awards selected from the entire exhibition including; Best Work Overall, Best Work with a Flora/Nature Theme and the People's Choice Vote.
ArtsAction ran a raffle of two gift baskets during the exhibition. These were offered as a first and second prize.
