Gawler mayor, Tony Piccollo, is to open Gawler's ArtsAction's first exhibition of artworks, 4pm Saturday, December 2,
2000, at the Eagle Foundry, 23-25 King Street.
Refreshments will be provided with all members of the community invited to attend.
This large display of artwork will be on view in the refurbished machine shop at the rear of the foundry from noon-6pm
Saturday and from noon-4pm the next day.
ArtsAction Gawler Inc; has received a positive response from a wide variety of art and craft groups, as well as individual
artists in the local area. They already have more than 40 members with most submitting works for this inaugural exhibition.
Works to go on show include pottery, oil and watercolour paintings, drawings, sculptured forms in mixed media, terracotta,
wood, metal, mosaic and woven fibres.
Prints, paper-collage and calligraphy will be on display as well, in addition to a wide range of textile works including
arty dolls, silk paintings, batik and fabric panels that incorporate applique, free machining and transferred images.
The group greatly appreciates the generous support of local business that have sponsored the exhibition. These are Totally
Framed, Coles, Gawler Arms Hotel, Kornacraft, The Eagle Foundry, Art Time Productions, and the Gawler Tourist Office.
"It is very encouraging to see such support for the arts from local community members here in Gawler," said publicity
officer, Julia Mannix.
"Anyone interested in the arts is encouraged to come along to this exhibition. You can check us out on our web site: http://members.iweb.net.au/~enigma/ ."
