Chapter 147 Flying Aircraft

1961 Piper Colt

PA-22-108

N5168Z

N5168Z, a 1961 Piper PA-22-108, the Piper Colt

The chapter bought this Colt to fly while the Tri-Pacer is being finished. It needs a little cosmetic TLC, but it flies just fine. The Chapter members can fly it for $30 per hour, including fuel. The Chapter welcomes students as well as rated pilots to join the Chapter and fly. It doesn't get much cheaper than this!

The Piper Colt is a two-place Tri-Pacer airframe fitted with a Lycoming o-235-C1B 108-hp engine. In place of the rear seat is a cavernous baggage area with a 100 lb capacity. The Colt also has no flaps. The Colt will carry two large people more than 600 miles non-stop at a little over 100 miles per hour in the lower altitudes. Piper Aircraft Corp. produced 1822 Colts  from 1960 to 1963.
