JOURNAL | ||||||||||||||
Welcome to my Web site, my name is Brian, I'm a 46 years old, and weight is 434 lbs. with a BMI of 54. I have decided to take control of my health issues by electing to have RNY gastric bypass surgery. This surgery is not the miracle cure to my weight problem; it's a tool to use for weight control. This is a life changing event for me but a necessary one. Please check out my favorite link for additional information of this procedure, I will also keep a journal of my experience and update it weekly. My journey began last Sept. with attending Dr. Fisher's seminar here in Las Vegas. This is the first step in the Weight loss surgery process. Next I attend an intake appointment (Mid Oct), which is when I received all my lab requirements and additional requirements such as psychiatric evaluation and Nutrition needed for WLS. This was reviewed/followed by my primary care doctor. All of my testing was completed in mid Jan. and now my insurance requires a diet within the past year from my Doctor. Currently on a low carbohydrate diet until the end of March, which should complete all the requirements? Then I should be able to have my OC appointment with Dr Fisher - looking at RNY surgery May/June. 2/19/03 My wife and I attended our second seminar by Dr. Fisher at the Texas Casino Conference center. Dianna picked up her packet and should be attending an intake appointment next week, but will be waiting until I go through my procedure first. 2/21/03 A doctor’s appointment today with my PCP, a review of diet program and acid reflux problem. A weight loss of 7 lbs. for the month and getting sick of this low carb diet, however need to stay with for awhile. No problems with smoking, quit 6 weeks ago with no regrets, and still taking Wellbutrin. The amazing thing is the return of my sense of smell and how strong the smell of smoke from others is around me at times. 2/25/03 A follow-up appointment with Dr. Ostrowsky, he specializes in diabetes & endocrinology. Good news is all tests for diabetes are ok, however test did show low levels elsewhere. Which means several injections over the next couple of months and follow-up test. This low carb diet is getting old, the same thing for the past 5 weeks. Big weekend ahead NASCAR in Las Vegas, I’ll be working out at the track with ASIS organization (American Society of Industrial Security) in a drink & snack stand a lot of fun and very busy at times. 3/4/03 With NASCAR weekend my diet was shot, so back to the grind of dieting. Very busy weekend at the track, our booth sold over $24,000 in beers and sodas. This is our way of fund raising for our scholarship program for a local student, we should make around $2,000. Had a great time, but with my size it’s a killer on my legs/knees. Still waiting on my primary care doctor to provide a letter and records of diet history, I also request records from the military on diet history and weight program with no luck so far. 3/8/03 Well another week has past and still no records or letter from the military or my primary care physician referencing weight programs. Maybe its time to find someone that really cares for his patients needs, thought he was behind me on this decision and spoke highly of Dr Fisher’s practice. I left messages for him to call me about the status of letter and records a week ago, but nothing has happen yet. We have also requested records from Kaiser a 10-year history with them, but nothing has come from that either. I even called Jenny Craig in Sacramento for records; they show me in the computer back in 1994 but nothing else. So I guess I’m batting a thousand with my diet history. Current diet really bites the big one, I am sick of eggs every morning and basically tried of the same foods every day; current weight is 430 lbs. Since the start of the year I have been cutting out sodas or anything with carbonation, switch to juices and water. The one thing that I have realized is the increase in cups of coffee that I have been drinking in place of smoking, give up one vice to increase on another. |
