Course Syllabus
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Symphonic Band are to provide a large instrumental ensemble for students to experience all aspects relative to the performance of varying levels of band music. New, as well as standard repertoire of artistic and educational natures will be performed by this ensemble. The Symphonic Band will also be called the Marching Eagles for any marching events and will actively perform at football games, marching invitationals and parades. Members of the Symphonic Band will also make up the Eagle Pep Band for some of the home basketball games, this will be on a volunteer basis.

MUSIC
Students will be assigned a specific music folder which will remain the property of Farwell High School. Students will be assessed a replacement fee for any and all music that is lost or that which is damaged through negligence on the part of the student (beyond normal usage). WHEN THE FOLDER IS IN THE BAND ROOM IT MUST BE STORED IN THE FOLIO CABINET. Folders may and should be, taken home for rehearsal at home but must be back for the next days rehearsal.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS
Students are to:
-Be on time for rehearsals and performances
-Be prepared (with reeds, oil, instrument, pencil, music, proper uniform etc....)
-Be respectful of others and of equipment
-Be focused on the job at hand - This means “Listen the first time instructions are given.”
-Be aware of and follow our band procedures.


ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to attend all performances and required, extra rehearsals. Any absences that are warranted are to be discussed with the director at least two weeks in advance. Material to make up that grade will be turned in within one week of the performance date or an unexcused absence will be given. If the absence is due to family or personal emergency, then the student is required to speak with the director as soon as possible (CALL ME before the event). - Please see the Band Handbook for furthur details.

GRADING 1ST NINE WEEKS

50% of Grade:
Extra Rehearsals - 25 pts each
All Performances - 50 pts each

25% of Grade:

Memorization of Songs - 125 pts
Other Tests and quizzes

25% of Grade:

Scales - 12 Major -10 pts each; 12 Natural minor - 10 pts each
Preparation of Music - 150 pts

Semester Grades are figured from 40%=1st nine weeks, 40%=2nd nine weeks and 20%=final exam.
