On that fated day, we were attacked by terrorists whose sole thought was the destruction of our nation.
They did not reckon with our strength of character.
Many heroes on that day proved that they were stronger in spirit than the enemy expected. Although many more perished needlessly, some distinguished themselves through their great bravery in face of danger.
The terrorists destroyed many thousands of innocent lives, and ruined thousands more - but they did not break the spirit of Liberty that continues unaltered.
We remember the men and women who assailed the terrorists on their plane and overcame them; though they died as the plane crashed.
We remember the men and women in the World Trade Center and its surrounding buildings who were killed by the collapse of the towers.
We remember the indescribable firefighters and police officers who rushed into the buildings, heedless of danger, determined to save lives -- at the sacrifice of their own.
We remember the personnel at the Pentagon, who were killed as the plane hit the building.
Pray to God we do not forget.
