PHILOSOPHY RATIONALE:

To give students an opportunity to enhance their first/second language by speaking, listening, reading, and writing the language; while gaining an understanding for their and other Hispanic cultures.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

In Spanish Spks II the students will continue to develop communication skills, study grammatical structures and learn about culture. Specific cultural emphasis will be given to Mexico, Central America, South America, Spain and Hispanics in the U.S.A. Specific communication skills will emphasize listening and speaking with increased instruction and practice in reading and writing. Class is conducted in Spanish. A workbook must be purchased.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

    • To help students become proficient in the oral, and written expression of their native/second language.
    • To help students become familiar with the different countries, their literature, authors, and accomplishments.
    • To provide the students with a global knowledge of the Hispanic countries and regions.
    • To prepare students desiring to the Advanced Placement Examinations.
    • To prepare college bound students to perform successfully on the college level.

     

     

     

     


GRADING SCALE:

                        The District Scale will apply:

                        A = 100 – 90 %
                        B =   89 – 80 %
                        C =   79 – 70 %
                        D =   69 – 60 %
                        F =   59 % OR LESS.

GRADING POLICY:

As per the District 131 School Board policy, the 2007/2008 grading scale is as follows:

50 % Assessments (tests, quizzes, essays, projects, etc.)
30 % Class work and homework
20 % Participation

 

A quarter grade is based on the total number of points from the tests, quizzes, homework, workbook, and class participation during that period. The percentages of the total are approximately:

    Grading Scale
    A= 90 to 100%
    B= 80 to 89%
    C= 70 to 79%
    D= 60 to 69%
    F= 59 and below

    A final exam will be given at the end of each semester.

GRADING PROCEDURES

  • 1st Quarter: 40%
  • 2nd Quarter: 40%
  • Sem. Exam: 20%
