Germany Smith Photographs, taken Fall of 2000 |
Germany's house as it looks today. I don't think the truck was his. |
The back of Germany Smith's home. I imagine he and his son George played catch back here. |
This is the intersection where he was struck and killed on December 1, 1927, at Fourth Avenue and Fourth Street, Juniata, Altoona PA. The building is part of the Juniata Locomotive Shops, then part of the Pennsylvania RailRoad, now part of Norfolk Southern. Beyound the yellow piping you can see the doorway Germany must have come out of that fateful night. This interstection is set to be demolished and changed as a four lane road is scheduled to replace Fourth Avenue. |
