Trip
Week 5.
May 8-14, 2003
Andy Hi,
First week of May completed. We enjoyed our first visitor, Martin's friend Andy shared a cup of Australian tea with us.

Churcham, a few miles east of Huntley, is a farming community with a Primary School on the Main Rd. The Parish has recently been joined to Huntley, and the five parishes are called 'The Forest Edge Group of churches.

Last Sunday we attended service at Churcham, with 10 members. I met a man who said his grandparents were buried in the church yard - the first real local. The lych gate is very impressive, with the early morning sunlight shining on the tower and spire. The old font was broken about 1880 when the thatch roof of the church caught fire, and fell into the church. Cleanup included a new font, and this one joined the welcome parade beside the front door. Electricity has been installed, and in 1991 heating was added. In 2000 the Mechanical clock was repaired, it chimes each 15 minutes.

Mothers Union flags are in each church, this one at Churcham gave a nice photo.
A large pond is between the church and the farm house where we had morning tea. The ducks were more interested in teaching the ducklings than in getting in my photo.

James is enjoying my photos, sent some of his, to show he is still working hard.

May God smile on you today,
Elizabeth

Retired Font beside the doorThe lady at the door is taller than me. St Andrews is surrounded by farms, and next to a large duck pond (maybe 50 metres long, 20 wide). Vigilant parentsOnly one from the previous clutch eluded the cats, so the parents are wary with 13 new ducklings to watch.
James James in Sydney is making good progress with the building project, sent these photos on Tues 6 May. The new front room is taking shape very nicely, we saw it when he was digging out rocks to do the foundations.James
Monmouth is about 20 miles west of Huntley, visited Weds 7 May.

Parking at MonmouthWe ventured to Monmouth, and found a place to park the car, paid 30 pence for 2 hours. First view of the street, MonmouthOur first view of the street, have to remember this spot, so we can find the car again.
Bridge over the River MonnowWe found this wonderful old single-lane bridge, and saw the River Monnow does not look deep. Bridge over the River MonnowHistory is revived in this border town, birthplace of the first Prince of Wales.
