The Forest Edge Group of churches now has it's own site, at www.oocities.org/fedgeg/index.com

First view of the Swedish landscape Hi,
We landed in Gothenburg, and were met by cousin Bertil and Franz-Eric (Brother Eric), who is in charge of the Franciscan Monastry at Jonsered, where we are staying. The large lake is called Lake Aspen, and this page ends with our walk to it's shore.
Friday will be a Holiday, celebrating the Longest Day, June 21, and starting a special weekend.

May God smile on you today, Elizabeth

The two story row of five housesBertil and Max sit waiting for the train Our first outing is to go to the next village to see where Bertil's new flat is being built. We walk between the houses to the main road where we have a choice and decide to catch the train.
Church with bell tower in the garden Elizabeth in the street Chuff in the garden
Partille is the next train stop from Jonsered, this Lutheran church has a wooden bell-tower in front. The street is very visitor-friendly, with seats. The bird is a chuff, much at home in the garden where we are sitting. The European magpie, similar to the chuff, is not easy to get as close to.
Max gets some Swedish money Baby Linnea with her Mum While Max was getting money from the 'hole-in-the-wall', I was admiring the hat being worn by baby Linnea, inside the bank.
Building Bertil's new flat Men at work Bertil is getting a new flat, on the second floor of this building. On the left is the view from the front, second view shows the work in progress. He expects to move about February.
Bus driver's view of the road Welcome back Bus driver's view of the road - we are driving on the right side of the road (opposite to the side used in Australia). Back at the Monastry, Frans-Eric greets us - he has the chairs stacked up,and is ready to mow the lawn.
King Oscar's rock In 1814 Sweden was part of the defeat of Napoleon, and was given Norway in the Treaty of Kiel. Oscar was King of Sweden and Norway 1872-1907. His signature, written on 14 Sep 1905, marks the year Sweden gave Norway independence. This monument is beside Lake Aspen.
This is Janson country - Max and Bertil's two grandfathers were brothers who fished on and swam in this lake.
Goods train Max and Bertil share a view We walked from Jonsered along the road north, to reach the lake. Swedish trains are electrified, and we realised this was the third time we had seen the lake, as this out-flow from it is beside the train line to Partille.
