I have a large home in Avalon, NJ that is on the water and is a tremendous place for a party. Avalon is approx. 20 miles south of Atlantic City. Get your atlas out if your still not sure about where I'm talking about. I've narrowed it down to the following weekends. Please let me know if there is a real strong feeling about either of these dates October 16,1999 or October 23, 1999. There are hotels only 5 blocks away that should be very reasonable in the off-season. Once we've nailed down a date I will post the names of the Hotels along with all pertinent information. There appears to be some good interest so we need to move this forward. I need to hear back electronically or the old fashioned telephone from all of those who have an interest in attending. Of course this goes out to all who are interested in attending except Joe since we've all caught up with him to a sufficient extent. I guess I am not the only one with fond memories of my time at EA (1975-1977). I've lived alot of life since those crazy days and am now happily married to a great guy and living in Pleasanton, CA. My husband, Keith Gillette, is an Attorney with a Maritime Engineering background. Together, we've seen a great deal of the world and hope to continue our travels into the future. Recently we entered the world of parenthood and are happily doting on our 4 month old son - Jack Gillette. Of course, we think he is just the best!!! I am working as the Director of Accounting for an Entertainment Software company in the outer Silicon Valley. All-in-all life is busy, hectic, and wonderful. (We gotta enjoy the good times!!!) My sister, Cindy told me about these EA web sites and I regret not visiting sooner. I can't even express how I felt going thru everyone's messages and photos. Renewed memories have not left my head since! Well I guess I'll start after leaving Rio in 1978. Before returning to the states for high school my family went to Machu Pichu, Peru. What a spiritual place. It reminded me of the cover of Led Zep's Houses of the Holy. CT was a culture shock. In High School I was "that chick from Brazil". Graduated from UCONN with a degree in Early Childhood. Visited my parents in Saudi Arabia during winter break and continued on to Cairo to tour the pyramids, etc. Pretty exciting huh? Now I find myself in Danbury CT. Married for 13 years to the best guy in the world,Bob. We have 2 boys, Douglas-9 and Daniel-6. I'm doing the Mommy thing. Created my own little preschool in our renovated playroom for 5 years and now I'm still very much involved with programs for young children thru my volunteer work with United Way's Children First Org. building playgrounds and working with the town's Parks & Recreation Dept. I teach Art classes, kindergarten religion, run a den of 12 bear scouts and organize most of the boy's school's PTO activities and Cultural events. Oddly enough the school has a bilingual program because Danbury has a large Spanish and Portugese speaking community. I've had the occasion to use my portugese with some of the students. I can understand them but for some reason they laugh at my attempts to respond. I've been thinking about taking some Port. classes at night so that maybe I can use my past experience of living in Rio for some good. Yeh- I'm the stay at home mom!? Oh yeah ,I also work partime for a friend's landscaping supply business.(at least I get paid for that) I still love the sun, the surf and rock-n-roll. Some things never change. I'm thinking of heading for the reunion this summer in VA. Are any 81ers planning on going? Hope to hear from you soon. How easily we ride on this vast super highway...so, I went to Michigan State, froze my bunda off, met a nice guy, married him for the wrong reasons, moved to WDC and worked for an international telecomm company...Travelled extensively, split up with the nice guy for the right reasons, fell in love for real and moved to NYC where I really grew up. Got fed up with the city, moved to Jersey, still worked for same telecomm. company. Had alot of fun, did some bad stuff (meaning really good stuff), did some really good stuff(had my son), and learned what it is to be a mom, and a wife. Life brought us down to Richmond, VA after I got fed up with Jersey...Worked for a Business News radio station and ran the sales division. True love got in real trouble, and again I learned somemore about motherhood. Decided to redefine committment. So, True love and I and Bubba moved on down to paradise. After unpacking the U-haul, I began working for a little start-up company. Helped build the company. Still there. In the meantime, learned how to swim well, became part of a team, competed...On the side, worked and swam at the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Taught kids how to swim. Now, I don't compete much, but learned that having and nurturing a passion is a good thing. Also, had baby boy number 2, and realized that I am enjoying being a mother - alot. Tis a good, solid thing. Anyway, true love got in real trouble, again. Couldn't help him, couldn't help him help himself. Got divorced, cried. Kids cried, but I learned again this interesting thing about motherhood - not only is it good, but you always should act how you wish your kids to act. In other words, tried to set a strong example in the midst. Only hope they'll understand in the future...So, true love is now a Big Lesson, and a Big Scar. Ouch, I say, at times. A while ago bought a house; decided to build my kingdom...tis a good thing to stand up and stand tall. Kids are cool, true gringos; gotta take them to Brasil soon. Big guy is the consummate scholar/athlete, little one is simply a large terror, and chooses to eat the world..."Watch out" I'm thinking, cuz he will never hold back. So, I am cool, enlightened, fine and wonderful, and at times wistful, crusty crabby, but - Hey Give Me a Break- always memorable...I am a mom, and a friend, a worker, manager, sister, aunt, daughter, classmate...so many roles to play, so many lives in one. As most of us do, I carry my treasures with me; memories of EA, memories of farras, loucuras, etc. e tal are folded neatly and somewhere near the top of my magic bag....... Hope you are all content!! Their url is www.netzero.net. All you have to do is download their software, install it, fill out a simple profile, and you have free internet connection. The downsides are that they use a dialer that connects you to their service that puts a pop up window with advertising that is there continuosly. I just move mine up to the upper right hand corner, use the highest resolution that I can (in my case 1024X768), and I forget that it is even there. Also, if you don't click on an ad every thirty minutes you get an annoying pop up inactivity message. Every 20 minutes or so I click on an ad and it takes me to that company's page. After it starts loading, I click on the back button and I'm back to what I was doing. You even get POP mail service (however, I think I found out that there is a restriction on how many e-mails per day and I am awaiting a response on how many). If you chose to use them, then be sure to look at their Support page and set up the dialer with the proper configuration for better service. By the way, I am connected right now at 50000bps, so clearly their dialups in my area support 56K. |
