I seem to have inherited my grandfather's love of photography. My grandfather and his twin brother were both amateur photographers. I used to follow my gramps around everywhere, even carrying his equipment when he would let me. I was in my teens when Gramps passed on. I kinda let photography drop from my life too. I picked it back up after I moved to Arizona. My camera at the time was a disc camera and it just was not showing me the real beauty my eye was seeing. I went to a pawn shop in Flagstaff, AZ and bought my first real 35mm camera. A Canon AE1 for $125.00
Then my love of the earthmother surfaced. I think the drop of Native American blood passed down from my great-great grandmother woke up and introduced me to the spirit of the earthmother and to her abundant beauty. |

I got a cover on Northern Arizona Magazine the first year, although they have yet to give me credit for the photo ! I was an amateur, what did I know back then? I shot 9 postcards the second year for my friends, the Benally Family Dancers, a Navajo dance troupe.
I had no idea what a shutterspeed was, let alone an aperature or f-stop. All greek to me. However, something was definately working !
In 1986 my dad passed on. I came back to Florida for the funeral and stayed when I realized I did not want to leave my mother alone. I entered the Parade Magazine Contest and was lucky enough to be one of the 100 winners that year. It was a photo I had taken of Jones Benally with his Eagle dancer wings on, at the edge of the Grand Canyon. I used the prize money to take my first photography class at the local community college here, Polk Community College. Jane Jaskevitch was my teacher and inspiration. It was in her classes I was introduced to Infra red film. I loved it immediately and it has been my main medium of expression since those days. I do shoot color also. One day I may do a website of my color images..... but my passion is in the image that I get from Infra red film. I use only Kodak HIE infra red film. I have tried others, but nothing strikes that chord within me like this film does. I hope that I can pass on this passion to you the viewer as you look at my images.
Thank you for visting my site and I hope you enjoy your visit.
