Holes in the Road
There was a time
When, flippantly,
We argued that
The navvies who
Filled in
The holes in the road
Were related to navvies
That dug
The holes in the road.
We were wrong,
For now the
Holes in the road
Remain
Holes in the road.
Deep, cavernous, potholes
Threatening the health
Of the unwary,
They appear as if
From no-where,
Ignored by Authority
Until one
Of their own vehicles
Suffers damage
Incurs cost,
Then, miraculously,
The hole disappears
