Tyra Tewawina - Tewa ![]() Tyra creates beautifully intricate "whiteware" pieces, the other important Hopi pottery. The classifiers call it "Walpi Polychrome". Tyra's family, the Naha's have dominated this type of work since the 1920s. She is one of a long line of popular and successful potters which gave her a great foundation in her work. Tyra is the daughter of Rainy Naha, granddaughter of the late potter Helen (Feather Woman) Naha and great-granddaughter of the original "Frog Woman". She has chosen to use the traditional family designs and creates truly remarkable works of art. This young artist represents herself with the feather and spider symbols on the bottom of all her work. << Prev Artist HOME Next Artist >> |
