Dana's Birthday

"Oh come on, Dana! You've been working nonstop. You need some time
off from all that studying. And besides, little sister, it's your birthday."
	"Melissa..."
"Just one drink. Then I'll let you go, okay?"
Dana Scully didn't like the little twinkle she saw in her sister's
eye. "All right," she answered relucantly.
"Great!" Melissa grinned, and Dana wondered what she was getting
herself into.
She followed Missy to the car, rolling her eyes along the way. She
could never resist Melissa's pleas to do anything, and they usually ended
up in some sort of trouble.
Melisaa slid behind the wheel and started the car. "So, any new
men in your life, Miss Scully?"
"Really, Melissa. You know me better than that."
"I have to pry for Mom." Melissa laughed.
Dana chuckled dryly. "So where are we going?"
"Murphy's Bar." Melissa turned the corner. "It's only a few minutes
away."
"I know where it is," Dana said.
Melissa reached over and flipped on the radio. A soft country tune
spilled out. Melissa tapped her fingers on the steering wheel in time with
the bass guitar. She turned another corner.
The bright lights of Murphy's shone ahead, and Dana wished she
hadn't come. Right now all she wanted to do was go home and sleep. But
Melissa didn't think that was appropriate birthday behavior, so here she
was on the way to a bar. Oh well, maybe if she got drunk enough she'd
finally get a decent night's sleep.
Melissa parked the car, and they got out. She held the door of the
building open for Dana.
	"Surprise!" A dozen voices shouted.
Dana felt herself turn red as Melissa hugged her. "Thanks Mel," she
said, with just a touch of sarcasm.
As she made her way through the crowd, Dana noted that the people
in the room were all female with the exception of a man, wearing a suit,
standing by the jukebox.
Dana sighed inwardly.
Melissa wenr over to the guy, and whispered into his ear. He
nodded, and Melissa stood on a chair, clapping her hands to get everyone's
attention. "Hey! You all know it's Dana's birthday, right?"
	"Right!" Voices chorused back.
"Then let's give her a good time, you hear!"
"Yeah!" People were clapping, hugging her, and all Dana could think
was, .
Someone handed her a drink, and she tossed it down. Maybe this
wouldn't be too bad if she was drunk. The guy put a quarter in the jukebox,
and came over to her. "Care to dance, birthday girl?"
Hands pushed Dana into his arms, and he led her onto the dance
floor. "My name's Fox," he said.
	"I'm Dana."
"I know." His hands were around her waist, and she had to admit he
was a good dancer.
"Can I ask a question?" she whispered.
	"Shoot."
"How much is my sister paying you?"
Fox grinned. "I don't think I should tell you that."
	"I think you should."
"Let's just say she'd not paying me enough to put me through college."
	"You're a college student?"
"Yeah. We've got off right now."
	"Where at?"
	"Oxford." He turned slightly pink.
"Well, I certainly hope she's not paying you that much."
Fox laughed. His hands got a little tighter around her waist, and
he pulled her a little closer. "You go to school, too?"
	"Yeah. In med school."
"All your sister told me was that I had to be really sweet to you,
because you're a sensitive lady."
"Only my sister would tell someone that." Dana sighed.
"Hey, don't be embarrassed. I like sensitive women. Besides, it's
your birthday, you're supposed to be happy."
She looked into his eyes. "I wish it wasn't. Then I could be home,
dealing with my insomnia, instead of here, dealing with crazy family
members."
	"You think they're crazy?"
"Well, I think my mom probably put in some of that money you're
getting." She leaned her head against his chest. "I thought maybe if I came
with Mel and got drunk, I'd get a decent night's sleep for once."
"And a headache in the morning," he whispered.
	"That, too." Dana chuckled.
The song ended, and Melissa came over. "Now that you two have had a
chance to get acquainted, someone has a job to do." She looked rather
pointedly at Fox, who let go of a slightly disappointed Dana.
"I'm going to tell your sister she doesn't need to pay me," he
whispered in her ear, "just consider this your birthday present from a
secret admirer. You're a beautiful woman, Dana."
She got another drink from the bar as Fox strode to the center of
the room and kiched off his shoes. Most of the women took chairs around
him. Melissa propelled Dana into a chair in the front. "Enjoy yourself,
little sister," she whispered.
Fox stood in front of Dana and fingered his tie. Then he slowly
removed it, moving his hips to the slow tempo of the song that was playing.
He dropped the tie in her lap. Next, he slid his suit jacket off, and
tossed it onto an empty chair.
His eyes locked with hers as he began to unbutton his shirt at a
maddeningly slow pace. Dana forgot that there were other people in the
room, and it became just her and this man, alone. His gaze captured her,
told her things unspeakable, as his hands moved down his chest to his belt.
He unbuckled it and dropped it into her lap, where it lay with the tie.
Fox's shirt slid off and floated to the floor. His gaze was still
locked with Dana's as he danced in front if her. He came closer, and,
leaning down, caught her lips in his. Her whole world dissolved at the
sweet pressure. She wanted to pull him down to her, but resisted, letting
her lips tell him that she was tempted, so much, by him.
He backed away, rotating his hips. She watched with wide eyes, and
swollen lips. His hands drifted to his waitband, slipping the button
through it's buttonhole, and dragging the zipper down.
Dana felt her body respond violently to the erotic image this man
made. Fox...even his name was sexy.
But her logical mind was quickly muffled as Fox stepped out of his
pants. He handed them to a woman to his right. His eyes hadn't left Dana's.
He pushed down one edge of his black silk boxers, showing her the red
briefs underneath. She raised her eyebrows at him, and he almost started to
laugh.
Dana thought. He drifted close to her again. "Temptress,"
he whispered in her ear. She grinned.
Another slow song began, and Fox slid his fingers underneath the
waistband of his boxers, lowering them an inch or so at a time, while he
rocked his hips and swayed to the music. Finally, they fell to the floor,
and he stepped out. Dana caught her breath. Seeing her reaction, Fox came
close to her, once again, and this time pulled her from her chair and into
his arms. He fit his red-clad pelvis against hers as the other women
watched. Dana became aware of the eyes on her, and blushed. Fox tipped his
head toward hers, his breath tickling her ear. "When the party's done..."
he whispered. "Let me take you home."
	"Okay..." she breathed.
Fox let her go, and began to pick up his clothes as the song ended.
Everyone clapped, and Dana held out his belt and tie to him. He took only
the belt. "Keep the tie, Dana."
She smiled, a secret smile, and slid it into her bag. Finishing her
drink, she waited until Fox exited the bathroom, clothed, and then went
over to her sister. "Mel, thanks for the, um, stripper, but I'm out of
here. Bad headache. You stay, and enjoy. I'll get a cab."
Melissa waved her away. "All right, if you insist."
Dana saw her sister's eyes flick toward Fox, and had a feeling that
Melissa knew exactly why she was leaving. The real reason.
She left the building, and waited around the corner. Fox came out,
and she laid a hand on his arm. "Hey there."
	"Hi. Still want that lift?"
"I think you know the answer to that," she whispered.
He bent his head, and his lips caught hers. she thought. After a few moments, he broke the
embrace. "I don't want to do this if it's only the alcohol making you
respond."
	"I swear, I won't regret this."
"You seem like the type who doesn't make a habit of this."
"I've never gone home with someone I've just met before."
He kissed her one more time. "Thank you for saying that, it makes
me feel special."
They got into his car, a used Neon. He drove to a tiny apartment
building on the west side of town, not saying much. He got out first, and
held the door for her.
"Thanks," Dana said. His hand on her back, he ushered her inside
his building.
When they were inside his apartment, Fox tossed their coats aside
and pulled Dana to him. "I don't make a habit of doing this, either." Then
his mouth was covering hers, and all she could think of was that she'd
never done anything that had ever felt so right as being here in his arms.
Fox's fingers found the buttons on her shirt, and Dana shivered in
the blast of cool air...
that woke her Melissa pulled back her comforter. "Wake up, birthday
girl!"
Dana blinked, and sat up. "Wha..?"
Melissa bounced on her bed. "You haven't forgotten it's your
birthday, have you?"
"No..." Dana was still drowsy with sleep, and that wonderful dream.
"Well, get up. We're doing sister stuff today."
Dana raised her eyebrows at Melissa. "Such as?"
	"It's a secret."
"You're not taking me to Murphy's, are you?" she asked.
Melissa wrinkled her nose. "That seedy joint? Dana, you nuts?"
Dana laughed. "I was just checking."
"I wouldn't go there if my life depended on it."
Dana pulled her blanket away from her sister and covered her cold
legs. "Mel, you don't know anyone named Fox, do you?"
	"No, why?"
She smiled to herself. "Oh, no reason...it was just a random thought."
