You've probably heard of
"Desert Island Discs", well this is my list of Road Island Disks. If
I had to take only ten CD's on the road with me (could you imagine
such torture?) these would be my selections.
- Joe Walsh - Joe Walsh's Greatest Hits* (Funk 49,
Rocky Mountain Way blasting as you soar through the midwest with
not a soul for miles... Forget about it...)
- Van Halen - Van Halen (Jamies Cryin, Ain't
Talkin' 'Bout Love... ditto on above comments.)
- The Band - The Band (Tough choice over Music at
Big Pink but I can't think of a more appropriate soundrack for
travelling our nation.)
- Montrose - Montrose (Bad Motor Scooter! One of
the all time great rocking albums. Sammy should have taken his
rock and roll shoes, locked them up in that three lock box of his
and called it a day after he finished this one.)
- Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedoes (His best. A
great sing along album.)
- Robert Johnson - King of the Delta Blues (The
original Ramblin Man. Who better to guide you through the South.)
- Charles Mingus - Cumbia & Jazz Fusion -
(Because at some point the Evangelical and Country stations of
middle America will start to get to you. This is music that takes
you to another place.)
- Allman Brothers Band - Eat a Peach - (Their
best. Southern Blues Rock at its best.)
- Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (Because,
frankly I can't think of a much better song to speed to than
Walk of Life.)
- Hank Williams - His Greatest Hits - (The
grandfather of Country. I imagine there are places in our country
you could be arrested for not having any Hank Williams records.)
*ordinarily the rules say no hits compilations but I say f*#$@
the rules!
