He was a longtime friend of the new queenrider Jeyann, and even she had trouble getting him to cooperate from time to time.
"Danoellin, could you grind the klah, please?" Ikara aksed. Since the boy was lounging about in the kitchens, he may as well be useful.
"Why should I?" Danoellin responded, not moving a muscle.
"Just do it, Danoellin." WeyrlingMaster D'lrik growled as he stormed through. Some weyrling was in deep trouble. Rather than face the wrath of D'lrik for talking back, Danoellin did as he was asked. Zilrik zipped in, and skittered to a stop on the tabletop. He was wet. Before he could splatter anymore water about, Ikara deposited a towel atop the blue flit. Zilrik squawked indignantly, and struggled to get out from under the towel. Danoellin lifted off the cloth, freeing his pet. Zilrik immediately attacked the towel, biting and clawing it until it was "dead". Then he sat upon it, looking proud of himself. It was a perfect example of what Danoellin and Zilrik were like. Once the klah was ground, Danoellin and Zilrik hurried from the kitchen before Ikara could give them another task.
The weyrbrat walked past Tiyanni's office. "Oh, Danoellin - coule you go find R'lan had have him come up here, please?" The Weyrwoman asked, knowing full well what came next.
"Why should I?"
Litayth rumbled menacingly, causing Zilrik to leap from his Impressor's shoulder in fright. "Just do it Danoellin."
Grumbling, Danoelin went looking for the Searchrider. He was nowhere to be found, and Danoellin spent nearly two candlemarks looking. Finally he found them just sitting in the weyrbowl. Danoellin swore they hadn't been there before. "R'lan, Tiyanni's..." the 'brat began.
"Already taken care of, Danoellin." R'lan interrupted, looking up at him. "Dinner's on, why don't you go eat?"
Danoellin was gone in a flash. R'lan laughed put loud and followed, though not at top speed.
After the meal, a few announcements were made, then R'lan stood up and walked over to Danoellin's table. "Danoellin" he said, projecting so everyone could hear. "Go pack your things." Of course, stubborn Danoellin replied:
"Why should I?"
and everyone in the dining hall said in unison: "Just do it Danoellin!"
A lone voice quietly said "Shards, Dano'.. you didn't even ask where." Danoellin looked around behind him. Kellir had spoken. "Dimglow, you've been Searched." Kellir said. "Now go!"
Danoellin looked at R'lan. "Where?" he asked.
"Lasair-- you leave day after tomorrow. Be ready, or I'll go without you." R'lan said, and returned to his seat, leaving Danoellin no opportunity to talk back -- not that he would... he was dumbfounded.
"Lasair Weyr... Wow."
