Ga'voh

Ga'voh's Life before the Hatching.

"Hey Ga'voh!" a voice called, and Ganaivoh looked up. This man was the first to call him by his new name - to his face.

Ga'voh didn't recognize the man, but those with him said he'd met before. "Yessir?" Ga'voh said, trying ot be respectful, yet keep a watchful eye on Tontilth.

"Q'wil, Weyrleader of Ryslen's Black Arrow Wing. This is Texia, my 'Third; Syrinx, my Weyrmante, and T'lri and H'zar, wingriders. We came to see you impress."

Ga'voh considered this carefully. "That's all fine and good, but how did you know I'd be impressing?" he asked.

Texia smiled, her two-colored eyes narrowing in Mirth. "Long story. Trust me."

"So..." T'lri asked. "What's his name?"

"Tontilth." Ga'voh said, pride in his voice.

"Any thought to what you'll do next?" Syrinx asked.

"Maybe a nap. Beyond that..." Ga'voh yawned. "I haven't decided yet."

"Good. Good." Q'wil said, "You'be got a long way ahead of you."

Ga'voh smiled at the Wingleader, and then turned to the sleepy blue-bronze dragonet.

TontilthGa'voh? the bronze-blue asked, leaning on his bond. Who's that?

Weyrwoman Tiyanni strolled up, her silver-green skirt blowing in the breeze, and her silvering hair following suit. In her hands was something wrapped in a vibrantly colore cloth. "So it's Ga'voh, is it?" she said, smiling. Ga'voh's face lit up, and he crossed the space between them in a few heartbeats. Tiyanni unceremoniously deposited her bundle in Texia's outstretched hand with a suspicious slosh, and found herself swept up in a gigantic hug.

H'zar leaned over to T'lri. "We can do that?"

T'lri shrugged. "Apparently he can."

H'zar laughed, and Ga'voh set the Weyrwoman back on her feet. "It's good to see you, Tiyanni."

"And you."

Texia handed the bundle back to her, carefully, a knowing smile on her face.

"Here's a little somthing for you and ... Tontilth." Tiyanni said, her pause barely noticable.

OOH! Litayth talked to me! She says I'm handsome! Tontilth said excitedly to his rider.

Ga'voh smiled, taking the bundle. It was heavier than it looked, and seemed oddly familiar in his hands. "Thanks Tiyanni." he said, and laughed as he unwrapped the spherical bottle. A green-tinged liquid inside sloshed thickly, but the deep amber spiral made it seem... right.

"It's mint-scented oil. The healers keep telling me mint is a relaxing scent..."

Oh pretty! Tontilth said, craning his dual-colored neck to take a closer look.

Tiyanni raised an eyebrow at Q'wil. "And what are all of you doing here?"

Q'wil grinned. "It's Texia's fault."

Texia snorted derisively. "Try 'gift', oh esteemed leader."

"Oh really?" Tiyanni asked, looking first at Ga'voh, then at the wing.

"Did I miss something?" Ga'voh asked, sitting down beside Tontilth.

"Not yet, Ga'voh." Texia said.

Q'wil cleared his throat a little. "You remember when Texia was promoted to 'third? She named the 'second, even though I hadn't picked him yet?"

Tiyanni nodded, ans then began to laugh. "Now I see."

Ga'voh was puzzled. After a moment, the fog began to clear. "Texia? You... see the future?"

Texia stooped to pat Tontilth. She looked carefully at Ga'voh. "The future is an interesting thing, Ga'voh. Grow strong, Tontilth, the Black Arrow Wing awaits you."

Ga'voh blinked a few times. "Just Impressed, and already requested for a wing... shells!"

"Oh no." Texia laughed. "We requested you about a month before you were even Searched."

Ga’voh twirled the goblet’s stem between his fingers. It was a nice piece, and the wine within was nice too... but something was bothering him. He had been thinking about what had been said by the Black Arrow Wing when they’d congratulated him on impressing his marvelous blue-bronze Tontilth.

You think I’m marvelous? Thanks! Tontilth beamed at his rider.

They’d said Texia named the wingsecond before Q’wil chose him. They said they’d requested him before Tontilth had even chosen him. Did this all mean he was to be the wingsecond of the Black Arrow Wing?

TontilthIt seems logical to me. Tontilth said, leaning on his rider.

"Well, my friend..." Ga’voh began, turning to his bond who was growing bigger by the day. "If this is true, we’ll have to work hard to be worthy of the honor. Can you do it?"

Ready and Willing. Tontilth said, eyes bright with excitement. Are you up to it?

"Of course, my dear friend. No need to worry over me."

Tontilth grinned in his own draconic way, and stood up. If we’re to do this, maybe we should get some sleep?

Ga’voh looked at his glass.

Do what? Shanath asked, cutely of course.

Get up early to eat wherry eggs before dawn.

EEEW! That is so not cute!

Ga’voh drained the glass. "Tell her you’re kidding, Tontilth. We’ve got to be diplomatic."

Right. I’m sorry Shanath. I was joking. No eggs. But we might still get up early. We’ve lots to do.

Time flies...
