Kielac Hold
G'rin hugged close to Ajantith's neck as they wove speedily in between the other pairs. G'rin wasn't too sure why Ryslen's Weyrleader had wanted them all to race across the plains -- which meant an all-out speed and endurance battle to the finish, and anyone caught going Between was automatically disqualified.

Ajantith had "grown into" his wings, and now the azure dragon was quite agile... and with G'rin's talent, they'd been able to avoid many weyrling crashes.

Several lengths ahead, broad wing bronzes and bright browns manubered. Suddenly G'rin grimaced. Where? Ajantith was prompt to inquire, sensitive to his rider's sudden discomfort. Bronzes; ahead. G'rin responded

Which? The blue asked, zooming ahead. G'rin squinted, trying to make out the individuals. Ajantith looked ahead, feeding the image to his rider. Dulveth, Alivirth, and Nadornth G'rin said Get hit by... a falling weyrling?!

As G'rin and Ajantith grew closer, G'rin's talent had grown from vague warnings of iminant danger to full-fledged premonitions -- assuming G'rin could see all or most of the participants. With Ajantith's good eyesight, this was easily accomplished.

They die? Ajantith whispered closely to his rider. Unless someone catches that weyrling. G'rin responded grimly.

Incoming injury! Prepare to catch! Ajantith bellowed, trumpeting to emphasize. THis threw the others off momentarily, but they regrouped, many queries of "What? Where? Who?" being fired at the blue and his rider until a bronze appeared many lengths higher in the sky, and falling rapidly. He was about 3/4 grown, and his wings were horribly mangled from Threadfall, his body and his rider fared little better.

The masses of Ryslen dragons carefully cushioned the fall of hte weyrling bronze, slowing his helpless decent. Once they had the dragon stablized, three of the largest took him Between to Ryslen, where Dragonhealer Glinde and the Weyrhealers stood ready with buckets of numbweed and more. Glinde's Nantryth helped her, and Senior Queen Litayth recalled the rest of the dragons. G'rin was incredibly worried, knowing it wouldn't take long for the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman to track down who'd sent out the warning, and was hesitant to give Ajantith the visuals to go back.

Litayth says Triegren has Impressed a brown. Ajantith told his nervous rider. Tiyanni wants to know why we're not back yet. he continues. G'rin swallowed hard and then gave Ajantith the image of Ryslen's bowl. He was a strong ex-smithcrafter, so why did admitting his talent to the Weyrleaders scare him so much?

AjantithUpon their arrival at Ryslen, G'rin was set to hole himself up somewhere for a while, and avoid the fated confrontation, but it was not to be. As soon as Ajantith touched down, J'kosh and Tiyanni broke away from the swarm around the severely injured bronze, and came over to him. "L'ran, A'ndo, and Im'mel have all sworn that your dragon gave orders to catch the falling bronze before he even appeared. How could this be?" Tiyanni asked. G'rin looked away.

"G'rin." J'kosh said sternly.

"I don't think this is the place for this, Weyrleader, really." he said resignedly.

J'kosh growled. "I am the Weyrleader, rider. I will decide the when and where. Now spill it."

G'rin cringed. "Since early adolescence, sir, I've been able to sense when something dangerous would happen near me - usually 20-30 feet at most, and I could call peoples attention to or away from what they were doing to prevent the accident. Ever since Ajantith chose me..." the azure blue dragon crept closer to his somewhat distraught rider. "...it's been more powerful. If something's going to happen within my line of sight, I'll sense it. If I can clearly see who's in danger, I can tell what is going to happen. Ajantith has very good distance vision, and doesn't mind sharing..." G'rin admitted, embarassed to have been cornered like this.

Tiyanni nodded, and J'kosh contemplated. "So you're saying you and Ajantith 'saw' the fall of the bronse before he even appeared from Between?"

G'rin nodded.

"And that's why Ajantith rallied the others to catch?"

G'rin nodded again. Tiyanni whispered something to the Weyrleader, and J'kosh whispered somethign back. "Well, G'rin, keep up the good work." J'kosh said brightly.

Tiyanni smiled. "And don't be ashamed of your talent, Rider. We just wish there were more like you."

G'rin swallowed hard. Should he tell them about T'gre's talent? Maybe they'd get his cousin transfered from Aneris Weyr after his dragon was grown. Yes, Tell. I asked Garionth. Ajantith said softly to his rider, smiling smugly.

"Weyrwoman Tiyanni... J'kosh... my cousin has recently Impressed at Aneris, and he too can tell when danger approaches. Garionth says the miners didn't want him to go." G'rin said rapidly.

Tiyanni's eyes went slightly vacant as she conversed with Litayth. After a moment she blinked, bringing her attention fully back to the rider in front of her. She smiled at G'rin. "Weyrwoman Rhiannon will let him come here once Garionth is gronw. She's more than willing to let T'gre move to be near his family -- assuming he wants to come."

G'rin smiled. He'd not seen T'gre in quite some time. Maybe he'd pay the new pair a visit... I'd like that. Ajantith said. Tiyanni and J'kosh finally looked pleased.

"Go scrub that beautiful blue of yours, G'rin. He's worked hard today." Tiyanni prompted.

"Right away, Weyrwoman." G'rin said, saluting. "C'mon Ajantith." he said, leading the bright blue dragon away.

"J'kosh... should we suggest to A'ndo to recruit him for his wing? After all, he's got Tylar - and she timed it back to tell us where and about when to catch the bronze..." Tiyanni said, leaning on her betrothed. J'kosh patted her arm lovingly.

"Tylar did, yes, but we don't know if A'ndo ordered her to do it or not. She may have suggested G'rin to A'ndo already -- he wouldn't know she'd jumped back... unless she'd told him." he said.

"You've a point, love." Tiyanni said turning to look towards the weyr lake, where Drikara, L'ken, and A'ndo were converging on the bluerider. "Well, we won't have to worry any more, J'kosh. They've already cornered him..." Tiyanni said as J'kosh turned to look.

Ajantith trumpeted happily as the leaders of the Misty Mountain Wing clapped their newest wingrider on the back.

More about the fallen Bronze

G’rin sat upright, and looked to his blue, his rare mental talent giving him warning.

It’s Aylani’s Jeschuteth. She’s to rise today. Adjantith said. We must go.

“We’ll only go if you’re truly interested. Jeschuteth can get what she needs from one suitor.” G’rin said, getting up.

I am interested. Jeschuteth of Falas is lovely.
