Do I have to? Tirrath said, splashing into the lake.

"Yes, you have to." K'hi said, his tone slightly on the stern side. "If ou don't get a bath, you'll never get rid of those itchies."

The blue dragon dunked himself under the water, then came back obediently for his rider to scrub his peeling hide.

"You're growing so fast, you've started peeling like a molting tunnelsnake." K'hi said, scrubbing the dragonet.

TirrathTunnelsnake tastes good. Tirrath replied, lifting a wing carefully.

"And how do you know that?" K'hi asked, working away.

Oh, Unath and I unearthed a big one yesterday. the blue said. K'hi was shocked. His dragon remembered yesterday? Most blues weren't smart enough to contemplate anything but "now". K'hi made a mental note to tell the Weyrlingmaster later.

Meanwhile, K'mer and Unath had arrived, all set for a bath and a little swim. K'hi is proud of me for remembering yeserday. Tirrath informed his clutchmate.

Oh really? I remember yesterday too. I like eating tunnelsnakes. Unath replied. The two dragonets were nearly as close as their riders. What's so special about that?

I don't know.

K'hi K'mer the dragons chorused. What's so special about yesterday?

Of course, each had only heard half of the conversation, but this made them stare at each other. Who said dragons from green's clutches weren't as smart as ones from Queens?

This was how it always was - K'mer and K'hi together as a team, now with their dragons beside them (and their canines running along behind).

And life goes on!
