Two River Hold

Ra'pid
the Dragonner

Hatching by Shard

A medium sized egg snapped open to show off two small white dragons! The pair of them lounged around in the remains of their shell until the candidates began to approach. Then, one of them dodged out of the way and zipped behind the boys. He nipped several candidates on their bums, causing quite a laughing ruckus in the stands! While he was still busy doing that, dancing around the legs of the boys, his sister spread her wings and walked up to Tiagara.

As if to catch up with his twin sister, the male white drifted around until he was behind Raulpidal. Ra’pid, you’re going to love this. I think your running days are over.

“I don’t think so, Jepath,” Ra’pid replied. “Want to race?”

Of course I do! They bolted out of the dunes, bowling over several people in the process.

Ra'pid was surprised to find his cousin Glinde among the spectators of the Alabaster hatching. Didn't a dragonhealer have more important things to do?

Hatchling JepathWhat's more important than family? the white dragon said to his rider; a rhetorical question, of course.

Glinde was glad to see them both, and pronounced Jepath to be in fine health - like that was an issue?

They'd about run out of steam, and were lounging about. "So... I guess I'm done being a messenger now." Ra'pid mused.

"Not necessarily." Glinde said, "You could be Ryslen's messengers, running messages too important to trust to flitters between places, and small precious cargos..."

Ra'pid considered, gazing lovingly at his precious small dragon, who slept contentedly at his side.

Weyrling JepathAs it turned out, Jepath was as quick to take to the skies as his shellmate Dayath. Quick of wing and the epitomoe of agility, Jepath was an honor to his parentage, and to he sands where he was hatched. Though technically not under Lord Engell’s control, Alabaster seemed to expect that this dragon and his rider, the kind hearted Ra’pid, would remain tied to his service. There was no logical reason for this, but the trustworthy young dragonner was eager and willing. Any moment he didn’t have to spend caring for Jepath’s needs or his duties as a trainee, he was helping someone with something, with his white dragon at his side whenever possible.

Adult Jepath

Though bonding with Jepath hadn’t changed Ra’pid’s essential nature, their link, their forever friendship taught him to indulge himself from time to time. They’d transported into East Rock a fair distance from Ryslen so Jepath could get some hearty flying in. As they passed near Jenir Plains, a small pale blue rose to join them, bugling a challenge. Where a normal blue could outrace a normal white, Jepath was far from normal and they accepted. Though the blues wings were bigger, Jepath was faster and they reached Ryslen together.

Q’wic leapt from Eilboteth’s shoulder with a whoop that could raise the dead. “That was some race!”

Ra’pid dismounted with a bit more caution. “It sure was. “ he replied with a satisfied grin. Tri Star Fleet leader Ke’l beamed at them both. “Q’wic, I see you’ve met Ra’pid, and vice versa.” The blue and white riders grasped hands in the time-tested manner. “Ra’pid, I know you’re just arriving, but I’d like you to consider joining my crew.” Ke’l said.

Ra’pid smiled. “What is there to consider? We’d be honored to ride with you.”

Ke’l grinned. Q’wic had joined the day before. “Great. You’re both to report to Leader J’kosh, immediately, so if you’ll follow me…”

Ra’pid wondered if they were in trouble, but Jepath assured him against it. Ke’l knocked on J’kosh’s door, and soon the silvering leader let them in. “Weyrleader J’kosh, I’d like to introduce Ryslen’s Courier Team: Quick and Rapid.”

J’kosh blinked. “What did you say?”

“Q’wic and Ra’pid – Dragonhealer Glinde’s cousin, and riders of the Tri Star Wing, Ryslen’s couriers.”

“I thought you said Quick and Rapid.” J’kosh laughed.

“That we are sir.” Ra’pid offered. “And ready for your word.”

“Good.” J’kosh said. “Both of you take the afternoon off and get settled in. The real work begins tomorrow.”
