Back to S'rino's Weyrling Days
S'rino stood on his dragon's ledge looking out at the setting sun. "It's beautiful, eh Ducath?"
Not nearly as beautiful as Phaysath.
Ducath said, eyes whirling blue with vibrant violet specks. S'rino looked at his bond. Didn't violet mean... S'rino shook it off."Phaysath? Her rider is...?" S'rino tried to figure out which Ryslen rider it was. He recognized the name.
Blitzka. Of Falas. Ducath replied, a tone of irritation creeping into his usually mellow voice.
"Falas!" S'rino exclaimed, "I can't sign you up to chase there!"
Why not?! Ducath demanded.
"We didn't leave there on very good terms, Ducath. Don't you remember?" S'rino challenged.
Ducath snorted. No. But I will have Phaysath! None of those others are worthy of her beauty! I will chase her if you sign me up or not! The last bit was emphasized by a defiant bugle. Aedez and Zedea flew away, scolding the blue for disturbing them with his widely spread wings. Ducath was average sized for a blue, but he was fast, agile, and as extremely arrogant as a bronze at times - in S'rino's opinion.
I will never have another mate if Phaysath doesn't want me to. I love her. I love you Phaysath! Ducath declared, even though there was no way the Falas bred green would ever hear him.
"We can't, Ducath. We're not exactly welcome..." S'rino said, his riding jacket feeling very heavy on his shoulders.
I don't care! I must have Phaysath!! Suddenly the blue lept from his ledge. An instinctive grab at the riding straps was the only thing preventing Ducath from leaving without him. S'rino was hauled off his feet. I knew you'd see it my way! Ducath crowed, flying in a tight loop, catching his rider between his neck ridges.
"OOF!" was S'rino's reply, and they promptly jumped Between.
S'rino soon found himself bathing his blue on the shore a short hop from Falas. Ducath had become rather vain, and wanted to be clean while he attempted to woo Phaysath. S'rino lay in the grass, the sun drying his clothes. The sweet scent of flowers drifted to his nose. A thought traipsed through his mind, and he got up.
Ducath landed in the weyrbowl, and let his rider dismount before settling himself near Phaysath's ledge.
Phaysath, darling one. Your beauty drives me wild; every thing I do, I do with you in my hearts... S'rino could almost hear Phaysath laughing as he strode into the hall.
He found Blitzka sitting with some others. "Blitzka," he began, trying to ignore the stares he was getting for having returned after such a bitter parting. "I am S'rino, rider of blue Ducath. My dragon has taken a fancy to your lovely Phaysath. I thought it a better part of valor to introduce myself to you before Phaysath rises..." S"rino sounded as sappy as Ducath. He tried to put it from his mind. Kneeling, he offered the bouquet of brilliant blue and red flowers to the greenrider. He hoped she wasn't allergic to his peace offering.
An overly helpful kitchen girl bounced over. "I'll put these in a vase and put them in your weyr, greenrider Blitzka." She said, bouncing off with the flowers before the greenrider could react.
"I think," Blitzka said, pausing a bit too long. "You had better go sign Ducath up."
"As you wish." S'rino said, rising then bowing to her with a flourish before turning to go.
"And S'rino? Welcome back."
