T'zir & Ilyboth's Younger Days
Ilyboth butted T'zir in the leg with his broad blue head. I said I wanted a bath.
The weyrling blue's eyes shone red with irritation.
T'zir looked down at his dragon, bothered yet by the blue's insistence. Couldn't he wait until T'zir was done talking to this cute young...
Ilyboth butted his rider again. T'zir, I mean now.
T'zir walked away from his new friend hesitantly. When had Ilyboth gotten so demanding?
And they said dragons have short memories. Ilyboth said with a snort. T'zir clenched his jaw and rubbed the stiff brush across Ilyboth's hide. Your friend is interested, but... Ilyboth said.
T'zir froze. "But?"
ah ah ah... don't stop scrubbing.
T'zir began again, idly watching the tiny bubbles form where the brush swept over.
but he is much more interested in me than in you.
T'zir scrubbed harder. "You? Why you?"
Gentle, T'zir. His thoughts are all about dragons and about becoming a Rider - not about you. Give him time. Besides, G'leyr is more than just interested, and you know it. Ilyboth said.
T'zir's mind grew distant as he thought about his love. How much they'd come through... "Ilyboth, I'm..."
Sorry you were unfaithful to G'leyr? You should be.
T'zir felt properly admonished and sent Ilyboth into the lake to rinse. What a fool he'd been. If G'leyr knew...
G'leyr doesn't. Ilyboth said. And I won't tell him if you promise not to hit on any more candidates.
"Deal." T'zir said with a relieved laugh. What would he do without Ilyboth?
Make wine for the rest of your life> Ilyboth suggested.
T'zir grinned. "Good idea, Ilyboth. C'mon out of there and we'll go see what wine they're serving with dinner."
You go see, T'zir. I don't care; I won't be having wine anyway. Ilyboth said, cavorting in the lake.
"Are you sure?"
Yes, go. Ilyboth said, returning to the shore to sun. But come back soon. I'll need to be oiled.
T'zir went away happy and Ilyboth was content - and in control.
Ilyboth's eyes whirled with excitement echoing T'zir's own. Home! They were home! G'leyr and Nuikath had transferred to Ryslen nye on fourteen months previous. Nuikath would be ready for her first flight soon, and T'zir was determined to have Ilyboth win. No one else was worthy of G'leyr.
The first day home, T'zir ran into Ki and G'leyr together, which made T'zir suspiciously jealous. Ki's insignia clearly read 'second'. Ki had been promoted - and quickly. "To what do I owe this pleasure, Ki?" he said diplomatically.
"Business." she said in her way. Not one to mince words.
T'zir's eyes fell on the matching insignia on her shoulder and on G'leyrs. Tri Star.
"Bluerider T'zir, on behalf of the Tristar wing, I promote you to wingrider, and bestow on you the rank, duties, and priviledges of such." Ki said formally.
"Thank you." was all he could manage. Ki grinned and went quickly off.
"It's a new wing T'zir! Brand new! The chosen wingleader hasn't even graduated from training yet." G'leyr bounced.
T'zir pinned on his new insignia. "Is that so? 'xplains why the Second is doing the promotions."
"Yes! I'm sure this well be a very good fleet to be part of." "Of course," T'zir said with all the pomposity of a bronzerider. "We're in it."
G'leyr laughed. "Indeed!"
Ilyboth was unsettled. He was here at Falas on official business. Nuikath was here too… and near her time. But that was ok. If she rose, he would take her. But there was a problem. Jeschuteth would be rising first.
Ily’… you’re stud enough to take them both… if Jes’ risers, chase. If Nui’ rises, chase. Don’t stress. T’zir sent from his meeting.
Ilyboth settled, and his eyes began to glow eagerly purple.
