This truck has been broke down for about two years now, and we (Joel and John) have gone back and forth trying to figure out what to do with the truck. Well, I found out some more about the swap on www.moparchat.com (thanks bbaspense and RAM50V8), and we decided that something needed to be done. We're now getting ready to pull out the old 2.6, but we have to wait for my engine hoist to get back. (No, we're not using a come-along tied to a tree branch)

1/23/01: Well, we just finished using the hoist for my friend's truck, so hopefully we'll be pulling the old four banger out this weekend. This is the easy part!!

Engine/Transmission

Well, the Charger project is pretty much down the drain now that I sold it, but we have access to a rebuildable 318, and we are planning on finding a 727 out of the junkyard. We're planning on giving the 318 a good freshening (rings, bearings, maybe new pistons if neccessary), and add in a fairly small cam, intake (Edelbrock Performer most likely), and a small carb (600-650cfm). It should be a pretty good setup in that truck, and I'm hoping it'll get the truck into the 8's at Roxboro (1/8 mile) without slicks. I have some diagrams drawn by Jason Goldsack(bbaspense on moparchat.com), who just did this swap recently in his brother's truck. It's going to take a little bit of cutting and welding, but, it should be fun.

Suspension

Hopefully not much will have to be done here to support the V8 power. There are plans below for a pinion snubber to help it get off the line.

Wheels and Tires

Haven't put a whole lot of thought into this area yet, but we need something 6-lug and at least 8" wide.

Body

The body is good on the truck, just needs a little cleaning. From what I understand, the stock hood does not need to be cut up, so that should work out nicely.

Interior

Like the body, the interior doesn't need much work. The truck came stock with bucket seats and a center console! Should be a real nice little truck.

That's about it for right now, this project is going to take a while, since neither of us have done any welding before, so wish us luck, and if you know anything about these swaps, please let us know at jslikness@hotmail.com!
