Amidst a bright and scorching day
darkness fell upon
This land which took upon itself
to kill God's only Son.

Silent whispers all around
were heard upon the hill
As mankind stood and gloated at
the One who hung there still.

As voices cried in agony
eyes that bore the pain
Looked upon the fallen world
and He chose not to blame.

Instead His heart embraced them as
He struggled with the words
"Father, please forgive them though
it's more than they deserve."

Then all at once the whole earth shook
like thunder in the hills
As a bolt of lightning struck the place
the city named The Skull;

And then a stillness was replaced
by mournful-sounding song
As angels filled the sky above
with cries for God's own Son.

A vision so extraordinaire
engulfed on Calvary
As Heaven joined now with the earth
to grieve in unity.

Within the throes of agony
as life escaped the man
Ten thousand angels cried for Him
murdered at our hands!

And yet amidst what would become
that marked His destiny
He chose to pour His grace on us
throughout all of history;

From Calvary He showered us
in love to bring New Life
Into a world that never heard
those ten thousand angels cry.
