Overview
2001 was obviously one of the most eventful in the club's history and pleasingly, one in which we moved forwards, and towards a brighter future. Hurrah! Although we are in somewhat of a poor run at the moment, it is nothing compared to where we resided at the turn of the year last time round, on and off the field. But enough has been made of that, so we thought we'd offer a different but tried-and tested perspective on 2001 - The year-end awards.
Best Performance
Again, a tough one, as there are many to choose from, either from the back end of last season or the first half of this. The decision goes narrowly to Chesterfield at home, as automatic promotion looked on the cards for a few days. The second goal, a superb Kevin Francis header from an equally superb Rob Matthews cross, was one of the moments of the season.
Worst Performance
Only one from last season came in to contention, the home defeat to Blackpool. But we think that the worst display put on by a City side in 2001 was against
Hartlepool away, on Tuesday 6th November. Our heaviest League defeat for years, against a side then at the bottom of the League. One to forget.

Best Goal
From a shortlist of 5, the winner is
Lawrie Dudfield's recent strike against Oxford. An absolutely brilliant volley, executed with perfect technique. Alexander vs Rushden, Reddy vs Torquay/Halifax and Francis vs Chesterfield were the ones in the running.

Best Ground Visited

Roots Hall came in to contention, but as it's means of entry was a tasty barmaid in a nearby pub, it was decided against. Pride Park is the obvious choice, but instead, the new
Field Mill is the winner. It has come along leaps and bounds in the last year and a half, and is a decent little ground. Enough for them, anyway.
Best Player
A few contenders for this one, but ultimately, looking for a player who was part of last season's gritty side and actually still playing for us, we went for
Ian Goodison. Solid as a rock, while cool, calm and collected, the best defender at the club. Mentions must me made to Mark Greaves, Gary Alexander, Justin Whittle, Paul Musselwhite and Lawrie Dudfield.
Worst Player
Hmm, a toughie, as there have not been many who you can single out for criticism over the year. But seeing as though we have to, it must be
Jason Harris. Not only for doing nothing of note here, but for managing to get transfer listed at Southend only a couple of months after joining them. Now resides at Harrogate...
