1901 Census of Great Britain
Printing sections from the 1901 Census
requires some practice, and as access is charged for, it can be expensive. However,
it is possible to practice printing with a sample record – follow the steps
below:
From the main Census page (www.census.pro.gov.uk)
On left frame, click on Direct Search
When form appears on main window, in the box
marked Piece Number Mandatory, type in 1552. Then click
on Search.
Then you have a choice of 2 buttons, choose Test
Then a security warning may appear (asking
to install PRO Census Image Viewer). Click on YES
Then you get a different window with a
sample image (which will take some time to load depending on the speed of your
Internet connection).
You can manipulate this image, by rotating
it, increasing the size, inverting it to read more easily (but do not print
this as it will use a lot of ink!)
Then you are ready to print it or save it
(e.g. as Test.tif on the Desktop)
Once you have saved it you may insert it
into other programs – like Word.
How to insert the picture into a Word
document
Open Word
Click on Insert menu….Picture…From
File
Find the folder that holds the file (e.g. Desktop),
then click on the file (e.g. Test.tif) and click on OK
The image will now be in the Word document
and can be resized and further manipulated.
