Music Club - Information
- General
- If you enjoy playing or listening to chamber music - strings, woodwind,
brass, piano, voice - then Bristol Music Club could be the place for you.
For one hundred years its single-storey headquarters at 76 St. Paul's
Road, Clifton, Bristol, U.K. has been a centre for music-lovers from
a wide area.
- History
- The first president was Joseph Joachim, 1831-1907, generally accepted as
the finest violinist of his time.
- Club
Concerts - are held on alternate Tuesday evenings. The performers
are still club members or their friends, and the standard of performance has
never been higher. Concerts last about two hours. Details of programs are
sent to members before the beginning of Spring, Summer and Autumn terms. The
club was formed in 1903 "for the performance and study of chamber music".
It gave good-quality recitals and concerts, at which most of the players were
club members. The club was originally for men only, but amalgamated with the
Bristol Women's Musical Club in 1937. See Current

- Guests
- are welcome to attend... Club concerts cost: £5 adults, £1.50 under 18 years.
For members, admission to club concerts is free.
- Premises
- The premises comprise a Concert room with two grand pianos, and
seating for an audience of 80; a private rehearsal room, also with a grand
piano, and a performers' green room.
- Private
Hire - The premises are available for limited private hire.

- Disabled
Facilities - A disabled lift enables easy access for wheelchairs
etc.
- Private
Rehearsal - Members may book the rooms
and pianos for private rehearsal.
- Library
- There is an excellent collection of chamber music
scores and parts from which members may borrow.
- Subscriptions
- are due at the beginning of the year, from 2009 as follows - adults £35
(couples £49), country members £30 (couples £44), students £30 and juniors
(under 18) £5. A country member shall be one living outside a 15 mile radius

- Bristol
Music Club Orchestra - rehearses
at the club on alternate Tuesdays, and gives three concerts a year. Members
of the orchestra must also be club members. For
more information please contact the orchestra secretary. The
orchestra consists of woodwind, brass and strings as regular members, and
is augmented as required for concerts.The conductor, William Goodchild,
has worked with the Royal Philharmonic and London Session Orchestras. See

- Bristol
Music Club Strings rehearses in the club on Monday mornings.
They give occasional concerts at various venues including day centres for
elderly citizens. New members are welcome. See Contacts.
