Dorrie Jones Jessop, RIP

We are sad to report that Dorrie died on Sunday morning, September 7.

Noreen Deane Moran reports:
A few days after our reunion (at which time she had fallen ill suddenly and couldn't come), Dorrie was admitted to the hospital. I talked to her several times there. Finally, they did exploratory surgery on her lung. Everything was supposed to be all right. However, the operation turned into a nightmare. The cause of the whole problem seemed to be a virulent infection.

After the operation, Dorrie was in intensive care for about a month. Her daughter, Daryl, told me that she couldn't (and wasn't able to) receive phone calls, but that by mid-July she was to be in a rehab until in the hospital. Well, that didn't happen for a long time, and she and I weren't able to talk. The third week in August she came home with nurses around the clock and was confined to a wheelchair and stuck with tubes and under a lot of pain medication. Dary said that often she wasn't conscious.

In any case, she had been improving even enough to go out to a local park with Daryl on Saturday. But on Sunday morning, while in the bathroom, she had a heart attack. Daryl felt it was a blessing. After the heart attack, the immediate cause of death was the infection, but actually that probably came from a weakened immune system from the carcinoid of the small intestine.

Dorrie's service was:
September 20 at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Forest Hills, NY
