Synopsis
A tale of cops and corruption in modern day Hong Kong.
Trivia
The DVD
Picture
The picture is very good, although the print is a little worn. English/Chinese subs are burnt in which is bad...they come with the usual poor mistakes but at least they're in time with the dialogue. It's widescreen but not at its correct ratio since the subtitles are cut off at times. The picture also jumps a little at times and suffers (chapter 9 most notably) from flashes of brightness.
Sound
Dolby 2.0 Cantonese
Dolby 2.0 Mandarin
Fine. No 5.1 remix but that's probably a blessing in disguise.
Extras
Includes the First Shot trailer and a very boring trailer for Gigolo & Whore. Plus all the usual bios/scene selection.
Overall
I bought this film because one HK video supplier labelled it a 'masterpiece'. I wouldn't go that far but the film is at the very least entertaining. I think the film has been neglected by many and it seems the same can be said about the DVD. Age wise the film was made in 1993, yet the print used for the DVD was very average - it could have been cleaned up a bit. The burnt in subs really are crap too. Still it's likely to be the best quality version of this film available on any format. If you can get it cheap it's worth checking out. I paid too much for it.
