Butcher Wing kicks some ass.

 

The Cast

As usual Samo is superb in his role. Fong Hak on doesn't get to show off his moves playing the role of rich wimp instead. See Warriors Two for a taste of the traditional kung fu this guy can do. The supporting cast is full of Kung fu greats including Lam Ching Ying, Yuen Biao, Wei Pei, Chong Fat and Lee Hai Sheng. The fights are choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping and Samo.

 

Trivia

  • Simon Yuen Siu Tien was the original choice to play the alcoholic kung fu beggar but died during production. Footage of him was canned and reshot with Fan Mei Sheng in the role. This would explain the picture of Yuen on the dvd cover.

 

THE DVD

 

Picture

The print used is of a great quality but with the usual speckles of scratches. However compared to some and considering the film's age, it is an excellent quality print. The transfer is excellent. Sharp and clear.

 

Audio

The English dub is included and makes a nice addition to the two Chinese soundtracks, even though it's crap. All dubs are in sync.

Note

I was disappointed with the absence of any stills/footage of Yuen Siu Tien in the role of the kung fu drunk. (I have seen a still of Yuen in the role so they do exist!). Therefore the art work of the dvd packaging, although superb, is very misleading

 

Overall

This is without a doubt the best version of the film to have. Buy it now!!
