Shaolin Temple 3: Martial Arts of Shaolin
THE DVD
Released by Eastern Heroes
Region Coded (0) PAL format
Picture:
Widescreen at supposedly 2:35 un-matted, more like 2:1
Bit rate - 192kbps
Picture is good, could be sharper in some scenes. The print used isn't too bad, a few scratches here and there but nothing too major.
Audio:
English Language
Mandarin Language
Soundtracks are in mono and are fine - they're in synch. Nothing outstanding but then this film does not rely on dynamic sound.
Extras
There are trailers for Shaolin Temple (which had a very overly bright picture) and Kids from Shaolin (which seemed to suffer from Ghosting) but not for the film itself. If the dvds are anything like the trailers, I'm lucky I just bought this film and not the others. The Still gallery is a nice extra. The documentary clip is about 8 minutes long and I think it's from the Dragons from the Orient. I'm certain I've seen the clip elsewhere anyway.
Overall
Not bad, but no way is it as good as I hoped (then again what was I thinking - this is Eastern Heroes after all). Worth getting but perhaps not an essential buy. You're probably better off waiting to see if a different distributor releases the film and if that dvd is better. I really hope Eastern Heroes start to improve their discs. Though if their dvds follows the quality of their videotapes, I won't be holding my breath. Oh and I hate the jewel cases!
