Picture : 6/10
Widescreen at 2.35:1. The opening title credit and end credits are newly created. They're not brilliant but aren't too annoying. Perhaps the original negative was damaged. Like other classic kung fu films (i.e those released by Megastar, the picture hasn't been cleaned up but the original print is in pretty decent shape anyhow, with only the usual consistent little specks making an appearance. Good transfer though the picture seems to jerk and shimmer on some scenes.
Sound
: 7.5/10Four soundtracks to choose from: DD5.1 Cantonese, DD5.1 Mandarin, 2.0 Cantonese and 2.0 Mandarin. All fully functional and it's nice to be able to have a choice of soundtrack to suit your Home cinema set up.
Extras : 1.5/10
9 Chapter stops, one page of crap bio, removable subtitles in English and Chinese and that's it. Sod all. Mei Ah went to zero trouble for this disc. The cover art work consists of blurry scenes from the movie and is very poor. It makes the dvd look like it's been released by a pirate company and not a legit licence holder like Mei Ah.
Overall : 6/10
An ok film with some bizarre scenes (particularly one with Dean Shek and some eggs). Not what I expected - it's certainly not a 'classic' Samo film but is worth watching. Reasonable picture quality, great sound, Sweet F.A for extras, even by Hong Kong standards. In a comparison with Mega Star kung fu titles on DVD, Mega Star wins...just.
