Here's a list of suppliers of specialty materials and of stores in
our area (South Florida, especially Broward County) which stock "the
right stuff." Please e-mail me to
ask questions. Also--see the hot links/sites listed on the "Great Sites" page
on my home page. A number of them list mail-order sources or
catalogs--there are quite a few out there and the number keeps on growing!
SOURCES FOR SUPPLIES
Independent consultants, stores, etc.
- CREATIVE MEMORIES (TM) CONSULTANTS are independent dealers who have
all kinds of scrapbooking supplies available. They specialize in the
larger 12 X 12" and 12 X 15" albums that lay flat. They also teach
classes in photo preservation and its importance, album design and layout,
and many offer "crop 'til you drop" (TM) sessions (sort-of scrapbooking
bees) with layout handout sheets, etc. These can be especially helpful to people
who work better (and enjoy it more) when they work with others.
- In order to be fair to all of the Creative Memories (TM)
consultants out there, you can contact their headquarters to find the CM (TM)
consultant closest to you. 1-800-468-9335 is their toll-free number; if
you want to contact them by Internet, try their site and click on the
"contact" button.
- PHOTOCRAFTS SCRAPBOOK SUPPLIES (954-236-5747, 11476 State Road
85--Plaza Shopping Center near the 84 Diner) just opened in late September.
They specialize in scrapbooking supplies and have OODLES of stickers (Mrs.
Grossman, Suzy's Zoo, Frances Meyer, Mary Englebreit, Brice & Madeline, Provo
Craft and more); paper in 8 1/2 x 11 AND 12 x 12 sizes in colors, patterns,
you name it; albums in both sizes; page protectors of all kinds; diecuts in
plain and patterned paper; books of all kinds on lettering, layouts,
journaling; magazines and Mrs. Grossman's sticker idea books; scissors, rulers,
punches, rubber stamps, templates, pens!! The owner plans on having classes
for the public as well. The combination of prices and selection seem very
good so try this one out! (If you go after seeing this here, please let her
know, OK?)
- MICHAELS CRAFTS stores in the area have begun to carry scrapbooking
supplies (or memory books, as they call them). Each time I check they
seem to have added more items; in fact, when I checked on September 5th
in the Coral Springs store, they were putting all kinds of NEW
STUFF like Disney character paper punches on the shelves. They also are
offering some classes on starting a 'memory book'. I believe there is no charge
for the class but you need to buy the supplies there to complete the project.
Call a store near you for information on classes, what they stock and directions
to reach the store.

- Michaels-Davie, (954) 236-3038
- Michaels-Flagler, (305) 266-7033
- Michaels-Hialeah, (305) 556-7760
- Michaels-Kendall, (305) 271-5515
- Michaels-Dadeland, (305) 665-6793
- JOANN'S FABRICS AND CRAFTS also have a supply of materials. The
selection was small but it's growing. The Joann's near me has
seemed to keep the scrapbooking materials in the same place so
that's a plus! Check at the one nearest you to see what they have.
- PEARL ARTS AND CRAFTS (954-564-5700), 1033 E. Oakland Park Blvd. in
Oakland Park has added some scrapbooking supplies. However, they also keep
moving them around. They still have those beautiful GeoPaper printed
papers by the sheet as well as the Paper Pizazz patterned papers available
by the sheet instead of having to buy the whole book! For those of you
who have purchased a Paper Pizazz themed book and would like to have one or two
sheets more of a particular favorite, here's your source. They also have
rubber stamps (if that's how you want to decorate your pages) and some
fancy paper punches. You'll need to ask the staff where to find the
stuff although the fancy papers and colored pens seem to stay put
more.
- Two sources for lots of Mrs. Grossman's Stickers (very popular with
many scrappers and the main manufacturer of Creative Memories'
stickers):
- PAPER MPRESSIONS, 954-564-5587, 3000 N. Federal Highway, Fort
Lauderdale (in Times Square shopping area) [and no, I didn't make a
mistake in the store's name!]
- GRAND CENTRAL STATIONERY, 954-467-2998, 1227 E. Las Olas Blvd
in downtown Fort Lauderdale
Several of those sites I mentioned maintain discussion groups.
The friendly folks who visit the sites love to share ideas, suggestions,
stores they've heard about, just about anything you'd want to know. They
all have easy ways for you to post your questions. Look them over and
jump in with a question--you'll get answers.
Also, there are at least two new magazines that specialize in scrapbooking:
Creating Keepsakes is carried by many of the craft stores in the
area. They have interesting articles and sample products in each of the
bi-monthly issues. They cover some other related crafts as well. Check
with your local craft store. Their new website is online now: Creating Keepsakes.
Memory Makers is the other new entrant in the scrapbooking
sweepstakes. They are specializing in scrapbooking and don't have much in
the way of other crafts in their pages. Michaels has begun carrying it but
if you can't get there and would like to see some sample pages
(and your web browser handles graphics) click here:
