Great sites for folks using graphical browsers
Here are a selected group of sites that I have enjoyed.
- About.com's Scrapbooking Site
- This is one of those About.com sites where they collect web sites and information from all over and post it. I work in a library and we often refer people to About.com for their speciality information. Each of their subject areas has a real live person who is responsible for the content; each person "owns" his or her topic and take pride in keeping it up-to-date. This page has oodles of stuff - you've just got to check it out!
- DMarie's Home Page
- A site with LOTS of layouts scanned in--2200+--and they
add more every day! They've added lots of features to their index of the
layouts; you can even search by layout size (12x12, 8.5x11, etc) There's
a "Picture Talk" section to post questions and get answers, a poetry and page
toppers section with a new section that tells what was happening in the
world on your birthday--so much is available you've got to check it
out!
- Kristen's Scrapbook Page
- North Florida woman with a great site of layouts. Even though the
computer I was using at the time I discovered this one didn't have good
graphics display capabilities, I could still tell this one was a "keeper!"
Try it and see what you think!
-
The Ultimate Scrapbook Page
- More layout ideas to get you started. Their site is under
construction but they have lots of additions planned. A Cool Page of
the Month section features a layout or other idea to help add to your
cache of ideas.
- Scraplink
- Many, many links to all kinds of scrapbooking sites: general,
layout collections, message boards, supplies. Some of the bigger sites
are linked at several of these categories. NOTE: when you follow a
link you find here, Scraplink will usually disconnect and leave you
connected to the new site; that keeps one of their lines open for new folks
while you explore the link.
- Scrapbooking
Obsession
- Tips, layouts, layout contests, a message board, poems and
saying section: in short, lots more ideas to spur you on. Also--chooses a
"Site of the Month" and posts a "Question of the Week" to read and respond to,
if you wish.
- Scrapbook Addict Product
Review
- This one features something different: reviews on all kinds
of scrapbooking supplies from you, the user! If you'd like to find out
folks' opinions on the newest, latest, hottest items (and whether they'd
buy them again), try this out. They also have a "Tip of the Month" and
an Archive of the Tips.
- Tips on Creating an Archival Scrapbook album
- One of a series of newletter articles on a archival supplies company's website. Written by a member of the Iowa Conservation and Preservation Consortium, it is brief and to the point with good advice. Be sure to click on [return to newletter Archive page] link to check out other newsletters that might be helpful, such as "Tips on Preserving Scrapbooks"
- Preserving
Memories
- Central Michigan University's Clarke Historical Library has a
great site here covering all types of preservation of historical
materials. If you haven't looked at it yet, here's your chance. They
have a discussion of length of life/preservation of videotapes as well as
photographs and more! Great source to find out background information to
help you make choices.
- Lara
Read's Home Page
- She has some good advice for beginners. Good sense of humor! She's got a lot of page layouts posted that
may inspire some ideas of your own.
- Scrap Happy!
- What a site this one is! Some of her features are:
- Downloadable basic layouts with patterns you can use to
recreate the layout.
- Downloadable fancy fonts you can print out (with acid-free
paper and printer inks, please!) and use to spruce up a layout.
- A listing of what products really are acid-free by type.
- A section of computer basics with lots of help (such as how to
download clip art and then how to use it)
- A list of mail order companies in case you need to order something
you can't find elsewhere.
- Great new techniques for easy backgrounds that look
like watercolors! They use the pigment inks out of your journaling pens
or pigment-based stamping inks. I'm going to try this myself.
- The Scrapbooking Idea
Network (TSIN)
- The Grandaddy...oops! Grandmommy of them all!
One of the very first scrapbooking websites. All kinds of listings, a number
of discussion boards where you can post questions, links to other sites.
- Graceful Bee On-Line
Scrapbooking 'Zine"
- Another new site! On-line articles on subjects related to
scrapbooking:
- Feature articles: the first one I saw was on doing "Lullaby"
pages in your baby layouts.
- Rememberabilia: how to preserve three-dimensional mementos,
or family treasures such as christening gowns, silver, etc.
- 'Round Tuit: articles on finding the time to doing your
scrapping
- Something to Think About: memory helps for journaling
special things from your family history
- A great Links section and many other wonderful things,
including an New Bees (Newbies) section and Archives of the back
articles and features!
Any of the above sites are treasure troves of information that can help you
get started. Try them out and don't be afraid to post your questions on
their message boards or to send them to me.
