Scrapbooking is my favorite hobby. I started in 1999 after a trip to the Smoky Mountains. I wanted to record the memories of that trip in a special way, so I started my first scrapbook.

Since then I've started a general scrapbook, which includes several pages of holidays and trips, and a separate album especally for pictures of my best friend and me. My masterpiece is a scrapbook I made as a gift for my best friend. This scrapbook includes pictures of us over the past fourteen years. It also includes friendship poems and stories of things we did together.

I've also recently become an independant consultant for Scrap in a Snap, a wonderful scrapbooking company that focuses on making pages fast. Many people would love to scrapbook, but they just don't have the time and energy to put into it. This company sells products in kits so that you can make very cute pages in no time at all.

Scrapbooking is definitely addictive. Three years ago I would have never thought I would be this involved in it. I've included some pictures I made of some of my pages and some links to scrapbooking websites.

Scrapbooking Tips:

  1. Trace cookie cutters to make your own die cuts

  2. If you are having trouble creating a layout, draw a layout design on a piece of paper.  When you are satisfied with your drawing, you can create the page and you won't have to worry about being disappointed with it when you are done.

  3. Clip your favorite layouts out of your scrapbooking magazines and glue them in a notebook.  When your creativity is running low, take a look at your layout collection to get new ideas.

  4. Make small theme albums and let your journal entries tell a story as throughout the pages.

  5. Add your favorite quotes or poems to your pages to spice them up.

  6. When you don't have time to sit down and work on a page, get organized by putting the paper, pictures, die cuts, etc in the sheet protector so that when you do have time, everything will already be there for you to do your page.

  7. Use rubber stamps to decorate your pages.

  8. Ask children for their thoughts and put their exact words in quotes so that you will always have a record of what they thought of the trip, activity, etc.

  9. Save brochures, receipts, etc. and place them in the scrapbook.

Writing definitely adds to a scrapbook page. Some of my favorite pages are those which include a quote or verse. For title pages I find that a poem works well. If you're looking for writing ideas to spice up your pages, be sure to look at my quotes page.
