This was one of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze hikes in 1999.
The following pictures were taken while on the 1999 dogsledding trip. There has also been a 2000 trip as well as an upcoming 2001 trip, but there are currently no pictures available at this time.
We woke up very early in the morning to drive to Huntsville on the first day of the trip. The photo below is in the van we took, after waking up with the windows covered with ice, and us all feeling very surprised that we were there already.

When we got our destination, we were surprised to be greated by a huge feild of barrels each with a dog belonging in it. They were so excited as we were told to bring specific dogs from the rows to the sleds to be harnessed in. They loved to run so much that they barked and jumped up and down noisily until we finally took off, two to a sled. We had to learn how to direct the sleds that we were now relying on, and to do this we yelled let's go! to start, woe to stop, gee to turn right, and haa to turn left. We travelled far the first day on the back of the sleds, trying not to fall off, but getting the hang of it eventually. This picture is of sleds speeding off into the distance on the beautiful sunny day of about minus 6.
The first night, we stayed in a heated tent, and on the second night we slept in an almost uncomfortably warm cabin where we played cards and had fun reading amusing magazines. The next picture is taken while meals were being prepared. The haziness is from the smoke of the stove that kept us warm, or maybe it's dinner burning (sorry bad joke).
At night while we slept comfortably on our thermarests, the dogs were tied up on chains surrounding the camp. They each were given some sawdust to keep them warm before we went to bed.
We were sometimes woken up in the night by their barking at imaginary shadows in the darkness.
When we had finally gotten back to civilization with the regret of no longer needing the dogs for transport, we sat in the building that the dogsledding exbidhition company was based in feeling quite warm and a little tired.
The following are pictures from Voyageur canoing.
The above picture is us preparing for our trip at Albun House.

The above and below photos are taken when we should be paddleing, but in bottom one, we are taking a well deserved break.

The above picture is of our unit sitting around the campfire after a long day of paddleing.
The second day of our trip was very short, and in the photo above, we are docking and mentally prepareing for what we expect will be a difficult time before lifting the canoe on to the truck.

Lifting that huge 600lb canoe on to the trailer wasn't nearly as difficult as it seemed to be, and we accomplished it in short order.
Unfortuantly for us, our van (which made strange booming noises when travelling faster than 80km/h) broke down on the side of the 401. Some really nice parents came out at 9pm on a Sunday night to rescue us from the rest station over 100km from home.
Ebramollies, PLEASE send or give us your pictures and stories from events (especially those Sylvia and Elisabeth did not attend). We need more!
