This site is devoted to the science of schizophrenia. Many researchers and practitioners work diligently every day to better the lives of persons with schizophrenia. It is through their hard work and ingenuity that we are living more productive and more fulfilled lives. It is through their hard work and ingenuity that we will one day find a cure for this devastating illness. And it is through their hard work and ingenuity that we as a society are beginning to view schizophrenia for what it is – a brain disease. With more research and teaching, the stigma of schizophrenia is crumbling. Thank you to all of you who have devoted your lives to making our lives better.
Because this is a site devoted to the science of schizophrenia, you will learn about many science-related topics. Among these topics are the definition of schizophrenia and brain physiology. This latter subject matter may seem intimidating to you. Fear not! I have made it as painless as possible in the hopes that you will better understand schizophrenia. In addition, there will be a room for those of you who are trying to get help for a loved one who has a brain disease. And for those of you who like more toppings on your pizza, I have created a page entitled “The Attic.” This page is jam-packed with extras.
This site is constructed much like a building is constructed. If the homepage (the page you are currently viewing) is the doorperson, letting you into the building, then the next page is the stairwell. In fact, you will see a link in the left-hand column of this page entitled “The Stairwell.” The Stairwell lets you climb the stairs to one of four floors in the building. Each floor is devoted to certain topics (rooms) and can be navigated using the links provided.
Finally, on this homepage you will see some links to several websites. Please, take a few minutes to view these sites as they are indispensable sources of information. Each of these links has opportunities for financial support for those who have brain diseases.
