MY STATEMENT OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father (Creator) Almighty (Gen. 1:1), I believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten
Son of the Father, (John 1: 1-14, 3:16) and in the Holy Spirit, God's presence among us. (Acts 1: 8)
God, as Cre
ator of the Universe (Gen. 1) constantly creates, and constantly betters His creation, physically, spiritually,
emotionally, and intellectually. Through belief in Christ, all people are able to come to God for the forgiveness
of their sins, and are brough t into a new life filled with God's love and Joy, where we serve God by helping others
find salvation from sin.
I believe that
God sent Jesus Christ to earth not only to die for our sins, but to understand what it means to be human, and to
show us a more excellent way of life. I believe that the church is the modern day example of Jesus' ministry for
our generation, raised up by God to be a basis for a community of love based on personal and public Prayer, personal
and public Study, and personal and public Action.
I believe that
God's Holy Spirit gives us a sense of security to live as God has created us. And that same Spirit confirms in
us the worth of not only ourselves, but also those around us, giving us the strength to minister without fear to
those w ho are on the margins of society. (Romans 8)
I believe that
all of humanity is created equal, and that in the realm of God there is no distinction between male and female,
Jew or Gentile, slave or free (Gal. 3:28) no gay or straight, but we are all joined together as one in the family
of God.
I believe that
God calls each of us to be part of the community of love of which Christ is the center, leading us to form an ideal
way of life, exemplify God's gift of grace and make a commitment to love and serve God as God calls us.
I believe that
God calls each one of us to do a specific task, and is constantly preparing us for the task we are called to. I
believe that God\rquote s Holy Spirit enables us to fulfill our calling by equipping us with Spiritual Gifts as
the Spirit wills. These gifts are listed in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12-14, and witnessed in Acts, that we must
discover and use as a part of the task God has called us to.
I believe that
God inspired holy people to write the Bible, and that the Bible is God\rquote s living word to us toady, and that
we must rightly divide the word of truth until God\rquote s truth is known to us. The witness of the Bible tells
us of God's love, and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ, and through proper interpretation of the scriptures,
enables us to understand God\rquote s love, and gives us a definition of what sin is.
I believe that
proper interpretation of Scripture is important to the spiritual development of the individual. The Scriptures
are inerrant and infallible in their orig inal languages, and therefore must be interpreted by those who do not
know or understand the original languages, the cultures the scriptures were written to and the situations that
prompted their writing. As Christians, I believe it is our responsibility to seek out answers to questions regarding
the interpretation of scripture so that we might better understand the message the Bible is presenting to us today.
