ECFL 1 Game Archives
5/12/01 Week 6
Haddonfield (3-3) 41 - Baton Rouge (2-4) 6
Haddonfield needed to win to remain in 2nd place in
the East. The Pumpkins have started their third
different QB in as many games. Marshall went 17-25
for 309 yards and 4 TD. More importanly he didn't
throw any interceptions. Baton Rouge LB Rodney Waddle
had another good game versus the Pumpkins, making 9
tackles. Haddonfield host Arkhma next week, while
Baton Rouge hosts Duluth.
Long Beach (4-2) 84 - Denver (3-3) 24
The Long Beach All Stars have now won 4 in a row.
Their triple threat really proved to be too much for
Denver's defense to handle. All Stars HB Mike Penn
had a career day. Penn ran 33 times for 287 yards and
6 TD's. Penn also caught 3 balls for 172 yards and 3
more TDs. Penn had a season high 459 total yards and
9 total TDs. Denver HB Chris Barnes had another 100
yard game. Barnes ran for 109 yards on just 19
carries. Long Beach travels to Pullman next week in a
game for first place. Denver visits New Deal.
New Deal (4-2) 45 Duluth (2-4) 12
In their previous meeting, New Deal was outplayed in
almost every aspect of the game except the final
score. This game was different. The Lions defense
held the Moose to just 219 total yards. WR Earl
Henley continued his dominance with 17 catches for 257
yards and 4 TDs. Duluth got a good performance from
HB Antwann Newburry. Newburry ran for 69 yards and
recieved for 111 more. Newburry finished with 180
total yards and both of the Moose's TDs. New Deal
host Denver next week for 3rd place. Duluth visits
Baton Rouge.
Pullman (5-1) 44 Virginia Beach (0-6) 0
Pullman proved today why they are the best team in the
West Division. Pullman was held to just 265 total
yards, but still put up 44 points. WR Jason Jefferson
paced Pullman again with 9 catches for 116 yards and 2
TD's. Pullman also got a great game from DL Marcus
Terrell who sacked Virginia Beach QB Angelo Dominic 6
times. Virginia Beach's defense has been improving a
little more each week. Their problems have been
inside the red zone their offense isn't turning drives
into points. The Panthers did get a solid game out of
WR Aaron Williams, Williams had 12 receptions for 120
yards. Pullman will host Long Beach in a game for
first place, while Virginia Beach visits Texas.
Texas (5-1) 76 Arkham (2-4) 0
Texas has just dominated Arkham this season. Texas
has been scoring points at a record pace. Texas had a
balanced rushing and passing attack that totaled 706
yards. QB Brandon Stone continued on his MVP march by
hitting 34-39 320 yards and 7 TDs. HB Anthony Gibson
also helped out by rushing for more than 300 yards.
Arkham WR Jay Shines had 7 catches for 64 yards.
Texas hosts Virginia Beach next week, while Arkham
visits Haddonfield.
5/05/01 Week 5
Arkham (2-3) 03 - Texas (4-1) 48
Quarterback Brandon Stone continues to impress, by
having another solid game. Stone was 15-25 191 yds
and 4 TD with 0 INT. Texas always used a very good
running attack to win their fourth straight. Arkham
superstar WR Jay Shines was held to just 4 catches for
40 yards. These two teams will meet again next week
in Arkham.
Baton Rouge (2-3) 00 - New Deal (3-2) 41
After starting 1-2, the New Deal Lions have finally
put it together. The Lions held the Bengals passing
game to just 21 yards. WR Earl Henley gave the Lions
another great game. Henley caught 18 passes for 279
yards and 3 touchdowns. Baton Rouge hosts Haddonfield
next week, while New Deal travels to Duluth.
Denver (3-2) 23 - Pullman (4-1) 49
The battle for first place in the west. This game was
very close until the third quarter, when Pullman QB
Sam Atkins threw 2 touchdown passes to give them a
34-11 lead. FB Darnell Austin was too much for
Denver's defense to handle. Austin ran for 50 yards
and also caught 9 passes for 168 yards and 2
touchdowns. Denver HB Chris Barnes had another good
day, running for 134 yards on 25 carries. Denver
hosts Long Beach this week, and Pullman travels to
Virginia Beach.
Haddonfield (2-3) 58 - Virginia Beach (0-5) 07
The Haddonfield defense again dominated a game.
Holding Virginia Beach to just 112 total yards and -15
yards running. Backup free agent QB Jason Bird had a
spectacular game completing 16-22 for 291 yards and 6
touchdowns. The Pumpkins also sacked Panthers QB Mike
Cherry 12 times, including 4 by DE Scott Dixon. The
Panthers did get a good game out of WR Jorge Ball.
Who had 7 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Haddonfield visits Baton Rouge next week, while the
Panthers play host to Pullman.
Long Beach (3-2) 29 - Duluth (2-3) 18
One of the hottest teams in the league, the Long Beach
All Stars continued their passing dominance. The
triple threat of Christian, Penn, and Trazie combined
for all but 58 yards of the total All Stars yardage.
The All Stars have now won three in a row. Duluth HB
Antwane Newberry had a very good game running for 169
yards and a touchdown. Long Beach looks to move up in
the standings next week as they travel to Denver.
Duluth will host New Deal.
4/28/01 Week 4
Duluth (2-2) 52 - Denver (3-1) 46
What a great game!! This game went back and forth the
whole way. Denver scored the game tying touchdown
with only :16 seconds left on the clock. You had the
feeling throughout the whole thing, that the team who
had the ball last would win. That proved to be true.
Duluth won the coin toss in overtime, then wasted
little time in scoring the game winning touchdown.
Again the Denver rushing attack, led by superstar HB
Chris Barnes, tallied up quite a day. Denver ran for
a total of 273 yards at an average of 9.1 yards per
carry. Duluth used two things to beat the Demons.
Their special teams and their deep passing game. The
Moose consistantly returned kicks into Denver
territory, then when they needed a big play, they went
for the long ball. Duluth hosts Long Beach in a
crucial division matchup, while Denver travels to
Pullman in a game for first place.
Long Beach (2-2) 34 - Arkham (2-2) 16
The Long Beach triple threat of QB Tony Christian, HB
Mike Penn, and WR Paul Trazie are starting to get hot.
They are also getting into rhythym. Christian had
his best game so far this season by throwing to the
ECFL leading reciever Paul Trazie. Mike Penn gives
Long Beach the ability to run and catch the ball.
Arkham who holds the leagues #1 overall defense was
beaten up and down the field all day. Long Beach who
has won 2 in a row travels to COLD Duluth, while
Arkham travels to Texas in a game for first place in
the East.
New Deal (3-1) 41 - Pullman (3-1) 38
New Deal found themselves down 38-27 with just 3:41
left on the clock. The Lions quickly moved down the
field and closed the gap 38-34 with 1:34 left on the
clock. Still Pullman was in the much better
situation, they were up by 4 and getting ready to
recieve the kick. The New Deal defense did their job
by holding Pullman to 3 and out. The Lions still had
the task of getting the ball into the endzone with
less than a minute left. New Deal started to drive
and got down to the Cougars 38 yard line with :10
seconds left in the game. QB John Ballard took the
snap and fired a bomb down the right sideline to WR
Earl Henley who had a step on his man. Henley pulled
in the pass and crossed the goaline with just :01
second left in the game. New Deal will host Baton
Rouge, while Pullman hosts Denver for the first place
spot in the West.
Virginia Beach (0-4) 10 - Baton Rouge (2-2) 31
The Virginia Beach passing game is starting to come
around nicely, the only problem is their defense and
running game has been losing games for them. The
Bengals offense did whatever they wanted to vs the
Panthers. The Bengals defense also stuffed the
running game and sacked Panthers QB Mike Cherry 9
times. The Bengals ran for over 100 hundred yards for
the first time all season, and are finally getting
confidence in that part of their offense. Virginia
Beach hosts Haddonfield in a game between the worst
two teams in the league, while Baton Rouge travels to
New Deal.
Texas (3-1) 48 - Haddonfield (1-3) 28
Texas scored their lowest point total of the season
(48). If that is in fact low. For the second
straight week the Haddonfield Pumpkins took the 4th
quarter off. Haddonfield has given up 42 points in
the 4th quarter of their last 2 games. Texas again
was too much QB Brandon Stone and WR Robbie Holmes.
No one has been able to stop either player as of yet.
Stone now has 24 touchdown passes in just 4 games.
The Texas defense has also been moving up the charts,
they held the Pumpkins to just 271 total yards and
only 34 yards rushing. Looks like "smashing pumpkins
week" in Texas was a huge success. Texas will host
Arkham, while Haddonfield travels to Virginia Beach in
a game to stay out of the basement.
4/21/01 Week 3
Denver (3-0) 41 - Haddonfield (1-2) 16
This game featured 2 of the leagues most productive
running backs. Haddonfield took the early lead in
this one, at one point they were up 10-3. Going into
halftime the Demons took a 17-16 edge. Up to that
point both teams were running all over each other.
The second half however, proved to be disasters for
Haddonfield. They couldn't run, pass, or stop the
Demons explosive attack. The 3-0 Denver Demons host
the Duluth Moose next week, while Haddonfield hosts
Texas in a divisional matchup.
Arkham (2-1) 37 - Baton Rouge (1-2) 13
The GraveRobbers who were one of the weakest passing
teams in the league, turned all of that around today.
Arkham passed up and down the field and generated alot
of points. QB Harold Carter has gone 3 games so far
without throwing an interception. Baton Rouge again
played good offense, but stalled on many drives. The
Bengals did run better this week than they have been
previously. Arkham hosts Long Beach next week, while
Baton Rouge hosts Virginia Beach.
Texas (2-1) 55 - Virginia Beach (0-3) 03
For the third consecutive week the Outlaws scored more
than 50 points. Their offense looks unstoppable, and
their defense has looked 100% better than in week #1.
The Panthers who keep improving every week, had their
best offensive output of the season. Defensively, the
Panthers were just overmatched. Texas travels to
Haddonfield next week, while Virginia Beach travels to
Baton Rouge.
New Deal (1-2) 21 - Long Beach (1-2) 24
Long Beach kicker Gilbert Ford was only 1 of 4 on
field goals, but his 1 field goal won the game for the
All Stars in overtime. In the upset of the week, and
the leagues first overtime game, both teams looked
very good. This was a battle all day, with each team
regaining the lead. In the end the All Stars put to
gether a drive that saw them with a 4th down situation
inside the Lions 5 yard line. Ford then made the
short game winning field goal. New Deal travels to
undefeated Pullman, while Long Beach travels to
Arkham.
Pullman (3-0) 34 - Duluth (1-2) 27
Our game of the week lived up to the billing. Just
when Pullman started to pull away late, Duluth made a
comeback that fell one touchdown short. Duluth was
finally outgained and Pullman stole the victory on the
road. This game gives the Cougars a tie for first
with the Denver Demons. The two teams will meet in 2
weeks, and then again on the last day of the season.
Pullman will host New Deal next week, while Duluth
travels to undefeated Denver.
4/14/01 Week 2
Baton Rouge (1-1) 20 - Texas (1-1) 51
In the first half of play, the Bengals kept the game
close, by slowing down the Texas offense, The third
quarter spelled disaster for Baton Rouge. Texas HB
Anthony Gibson had 2, 8 yard TD runs and Drew Parker
caught a 4 yard TD pass to give the Outlaws the first
20 points of the second half. Again WR Robbie Holmes
dominated by catching 21 passes for 305 yards and a
TD. Defensive player of week #1 LB Rodney Waddle also
had a good game making 11 tackles. Both quarterbacks
threw for over 300 yards, the difference was in the
running games. Texas stuffed Baton Rouge for -6 yards
on 10 carries. Baton Rouge hosts division rival
Arkhma next week, while Texas travels to Virginia
Beach.
Haddonfield (1-1) 44 - Arkham (1-1) 3
The Pumpkins came out firing. QB William Hellinger
hit 8 out of 8 first quarter passes to get Haddonfield
out to an early 31-3 lead. HB Jamal Smith took care
of the rest, rushing for 180 yards on 41 carries.
Haddonfield also got a jump from KR Clarence Jones as
he returned the kickoff right after Arkham put up a FG
for a TD of 85 yards. The Pumpkin defense which now
ranks #1 in the league, held Arkham to only 78 total
yards and just 28 yards passing. Haddonfield has not
allowed a point in the second half of any game so far
this season. Arkham's superstar WR Jay Shines was
held to only 2 catches for 20 yards. Haddonfield will
host undefeated Denver next week in a cross division
game. Arkham travels to Baton Rouge.
New Deal (1-1) 44 - Denver (2-0) 49
Denver started this one off by jumping out to a 24-6
halftime lead. New Deal then woke up and came out
firing by scoring 28 unanswered points in the third
quarter to take the 34-24 lead. Denver was not
finished. The Demons outscored New Deal 25-10 in the
fourth quarter, to steal the 49-44 victory. New Deal
kicked the go ahead FG with 51 seconds left on the
clock to go up 44-42. But with 11 seconds left Denver
QB Stan Herman connected with Willie Wells on 12 yard
scoring strike to complete the comeback victory. The
passing of Denver's Stan Herman put the Demons over
the top. Herman completed 41 of 61 passes for 620
yards and 6 TD with 5 INT. New Deal travels to
winless Long Beach next week, as Denver will visit
Haddonfield.
Pullman (2-0) 22 - Long Beach (0-2) 14
The Long Beach All Stars held onto a 7-0 lead until
about 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Pullman
finally broke through the All Stars defense with a 4
yard TD pass. Pullman then pulled away with a 14
point fourth quarter to increase their lead to 22-7.
Long Beach got a late TD, but never really showed the
offensive power to break out. Cougars HB Josh Centers
had 91 yards rushing on 9 carries. QB Sam Atkins
threw for 3 touchdowns, 2 of them to Jason Jefferson.
A very good defensive game on both sides. Defensive
player of the week, George Thomas of Pullman made 4
tackles had 1 sack, intercepted 1 pass, and defended
on one other one. Pullman travels to Duluth next week
in a divisional contest, while Long Beach hosts New
Deal.
Virginia Beach (0-2) 22 - Duluth (1-1) 30
The most improved team from week one to week two was
the Virginia Beach Panthers. In week 1 the Panthers
looked so bad, they couldn't have scored on an empty
field. This week however was a completely different
story. Duluth jumped out ahead to a 17-0 lead. The
scrappy Panthers then added two field goals and a
safety to cut the Moose lead to 17-8. Duluth then
rattled off 13 straight points to start what looked
like another route of the Panthers 30-8. With 20
seconds left in the third quarter the Panthers finally
got their first touchdown when QB Mike Cherry hit
Aaron Williams on a 54 yarder. The Panthers would add
another TD pass later on to close the gap to 30-22,
but would get no closer. The Duluth Moose outgained
the Panthers 484 to 315, but this time they got the
victory. Duluth had spectacular games from their QB
and #1 WR. QB Jamey Thomas connected on 21-40 for 359
yards with 4 TD and 0 INT. WR Warren Drayton caught
10 passes for 215 yards and 3 TD. Defensively, Duluth
LB Lament Dudley had 2 sacks. Duluth is also showing
the perfect balance in offense to defense, by having
the #3 rating in each. Virginia Beach hosts Texas
next week, while Duluth hosts undefeated division foe
Pullman.
4/07/01 Week 1
Baton Rouge (1-0) 28 - Haddonfield (0-1) 17
The Baton Rouge Bengals caused 9 turnovers to upset
the Haddonfield Pumpkins. LB Rodney Waddle had 4 of
the teams 8 interceptions. Baton Rouge got off to a
21-0 lead and a 28-14 halftime lead. The Pumpkins
never recovered. Bengals QB Nick Gordon threw for 281
yards along with 4 touchdowns. Jamal Smith provided
most of the offense for Haddonfield rushing for 73
yards and catching 7 passes for another 124 yards.
Both teams face tough opponents next week as Baton
Rouge travels to Texas, and Haddonfield visits Arkham.
Virginia Beach (0-1) 0 - Arkham (1-0) 47
New head coach Mike Webster was welcomed to the ECFL
today by a crushing Arkham defense. The Grave Robbers
held the Panthers to -3 yards rushing and a mere 124
total yards. Arkham QB Harold Carter was as close to
perfect as a QB can get. Carter completed 16 of 17
passes, threw 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
Superstar WR Jay Shines caught 12 passes for 162 yards
and 1 touchdown. HB Todd Otey ran for 98 yards.
Virginia Beach is on the road next week vs Duluth, and
Arkham will host the Haddonfield Pumpkins.
Texas (0-1) 62 - Pullman (1-0) 63
With 7 seconds left to play Pullman kicker Michael
Jordan nailed a 36 yarder to give the Cougars the
upset win of the week. Both teams played incredible
offense, combining for over 1200 passing yards.
Player of the week, Texas QB Brandon Stone threw for
almost 700 yards with 8 touchdowns and 0
interceptions. Pullman WR Jason Jefferson caught 10
passes for 429 yards and 6 touchdowns. He wasn't even
the best WR this day, as Texas WR Robbie Holmes caught
19 passes for 485 yards and 6 touchdowns. Pullman
travels to Long Beach next week, while Texas hosts
Baton Rouge.
Denver (1-0) 49 - Long Beach (0-1) 28
HB Chris Barnes was the only 100 yard rusher of week
1. Barnes had 25 carries for 125 yards. Denver
jumped out to a 19-0 lead and held off a couple of
late runs by the All Stars. The Demons balance
between run and pass kept the Long Beach defense
confused all day. The All Stars did get a good game
out of WR Paul Trazie. Trazie caught 13 passes for
222 yards. Next week Denver will host New Deal in a
divisional contest between two of the West's
powerhouses. Long Beach hosts the surprising Pullman
Cougars.
Duluth (0-1) 21 - New Deal (1-0) 45
The New Deal Lions proved today that yards don't add
up to points. New Deal was outgained 514-343 in total
yards. The Lions also used a 28 point second quarter
to put the Moose in a hole they couldn't climb out of.
The Lions got a huge game out of WR Earl Henley, who
had 6 catches for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns. Duluth
got good games from alot of their players. Both of
the Moose's running backs caught over 10 passes, and
both went over 100 yards recieving. New Deal travels
to Denver in the only game of the week featuring two
undefeated teams. Duluth will host the Virginia Beach
Panthers.
