It took me a long time to figure out how I was going to manage the awards. Way back in February, I scribbled down some ideas for what the awards would be, and how they should be judged, being a mix of judging and voting. Once time got closed, I narrowed down the list of awards and decided that they would all be based strictly on votes of those in attendance, thus eliminating any chance for judging bias. The categories anbd scoring are detailed below. There were 12 trophies, certificates for 2nd Choice and 3rd Choice in each of those 12 categories, plus a Road Runner award for the owner who drove the farthest to get to the gathering, and a new "Around the World Award" for the owner with the car that has the highest mileage on the odometer. In addition to the below categories, there was a trophy for "People's Choice Award" chosed solely by the non-owners and spectators who attend. I created voting sheets for them to use separate from the sheets the owners used. It simply had them voting for their top 3 favorite cars, not distinguishing between Stealth or 3000GT, simply they three they liked the best (first, second, and third choices). Here is a list of the 1st Choice, 2nd Choice, and 3rd Choice winners, all according to the votes of those in attendance, as well as the "Road Runner" and "Around the World" awards............ ![]() Car# Owner Car Road Runner Award - Most Miles Travelled to Ocean City: 962 Miles 89 Ian Hannigan Yellow '94 3000GT VR-4 "Around the World Award" - Highest Odometer Reading: 220,000 Miles 110 Kenny Hoang Silver/Grey '92 3000GT Best Performance Modified Stealth 1st Choice: 13 Mike Mahaffey Green '94 Stealth TT 2nd Choice: 15 Charles Theiss Yellow '94 Stealth TT 3rd Choice: 112 Brad Cocks Black '92 Stealth TT Best Performance Modified 3000GT 1st Choice: 94 Giuseppe Joe Cannella Purple '96 3000GT VR-4 2nd Choice: 34 Dave Best Maroon '92 3000GT VR-4 3rd Choice: 31 Robert Keller Silver/Grey '92 3000GT VR-4 Best Interior Modified Stealth 1st Choice: 1 Eric Bowden Blue '93 Stealth R/T 2nd Choice: 80 Christopher Lewis Red '92 Stealth ES 3rd Choice: 20 Brian Ertzinger Blue '91 Stealth R/T (White Stripes) Best Interior Modified 3000GT 1st Choice: 54 Earl Young Red '95 3000GT 2nd Choice: 94 Giuseppe Joe Cannella Purple '96 3000GT VR-4 3rd Choice: 42 Tighe Nostrand Black '94 3000GT SL Best Stock Unmodified Stealth 1st Choice: 68 James & Stephanie Sirbaugh Champagne '92 Stealth TT 2nd Choice: 24 Alfredo Guzman White '92 Stealth TT 3rd Choice: 116 Mark & Mike Bell Black '93 Stealth Best Stock Unmodified 3000GT 1st Choice: 105 Vic Naumann Red '95 3000GT VR-4 Spyder 2nd Choice: 137 Bill & Karin Tricarico Blue '91 3000GT VR-4 3rd Choice: 76 Corwin M. (Thanks guys!) We all agreed that the scoring method was a bit on the complex side. BUT... Looking at how things came out, it seems that it was pretty fair. I was actually shocked when I got finished tallying scores and there were less than 10 points betweeen the three top cars!!! WOW! Suggestions have already been made and will be taken into consideration for next years categories and scoring.Since I was giving the awards at The Embers, I didn't get ANY pictures... But if you link over to Jimmy's ECG5 page, he has
a bunch of them... |
Below is an explanation of the voting sheet, and how the scores were tallied. The East Coast Gathering V May 14 - 16, 1999 -- Ocean City, MD Owner's Voting Sheet Please browse around all of the cars here and vote for your favorites! Choose your first, second, and third favorite for each category (each line). Don't write the same car more than once per line, but you can vote for a car in more than one category. Try to be cool about things and not vote for your own car. 1st Choice 2nd Choice 3rd Choice (3pts, 2pts, 1pt) Best Performance Modified Stealth _________ _________ _________ Best Performance Modified 3000GT _________ _________ _________ Best Interior Modified Stealth _________ _________ _________ Best Interior Modified 3000GT _________ _________ _________ Best Stock Unmodified Stealth _________ _________ _________ Best Stock Unmodified 3000GT _________ _________ _________ "Most Unique Car" _________ _________ _________ Best Sound System _________ _________ _________ (7pts, 4pts, 2pt + points from above) Owner's Choice Award - Best Stealth _________ _________ _________ Owner's Choice Award - Best 3000GT _________ _________ _________ (10pts, 6pts, 3pts + points from above + 7pts, 4pts, 2pts for each people's choice vote) Best of Show _________ _________ _________ Awards: There are trophies for all First Place winners in each category. Also, not shown, there is a trophy for the "People's Choice Award - Non-Owner's Favorite Car". Second and Third place winners receive a certificate acknowledging their achievements. Just to clarify how the scoring will work, the points will be awarded for each vote each car gets. Owner's Choice gets migher points for the votes each car gets PLUS all of the points for each of the first categories. This is of course open to everyone, NOT just the cars that won in the first categories. Best of Show takes into account each vote for best of show, PLUS all other votes in all other categories PLUS points earned based on votes cast by spectators and other non-owners. I thought this seemed to be the most fair way and totally rules out any judging bias. Also with the tiered levels and point values, we should end up with differnt cars in first place in each category, and not have 1 car getting 3 trophies. But if the car is THAT good.... Well.... The people will speak!! It's ALL up to you as owners and spectators!! |
