In fact, there are many, many animals out there, far more than what we see in animal books as children, because only a few animals have had the dubious honor of being chosen to be a 'typical' animal that is normally known by everyone.

Conservation - and Extinction
Humans have single-handedly caused the extinction of thousands of animals already; unfortunately, this destruction continues today, reasons for this including the bushmeat, ivory, Chinese medicine, fur, and tropical lumber trades, as well as destruction of rainforests to clear pasture land for domestic animals, and corporation/government clearing of land for business/military reasons. |
