This form is one of the praying mantis forms traditionally attributed to the creator of praying mantis style,
Wang Lang (王郎), along with the other forms 'Eight Elbows' (八肘) and perhaps 'Intercept' (攔截).
'Crushing Step' is included in both the Seven Star (七星) and Taiji/Plum Flower (太極/梅花) styles
of praying mantis, and is taught at different times by different teachers - some consider it a basic form, others
an advanced form, and still others keep it secret because they feel that it is too valuable to give away easily.
In any case, this form teaches a student to advance quickly, rapidly attack multiple times, and includes many
bread-and-butter Seven Star Praying Mantis techniques like Mantis Catches the Cicada (捕蟬), Back Fist (崩捶), Double Sealing Hands
(雙封手), and Turning Wheel (番車).
The particular Bengbu form described here is from the Luo Guangyu lineage passed down in Hong Kong
to Huang Hanxun (黄漢勲) to Yuan Wenxie (源汶湝). Not all Bengbu forms from each lineage are the same, but all
contain the same essence.
