My Family
Various shades of brown paint
the green grass of the lawn under the
Hot July sun. Speaking our own patois
In midlaugh and smirks. And the blood that flows
inside is in likeness so that
There is a circle of lovely brown shades
with like blood throbbing through our bodies
Swaying to the heat of the same July sun.
We all race across the springy green grass
with long brown legs
sun-kissed generations racing and clapping to
Rockin-robin, and chalk marked hopscotch boxes
Rhyming with the jump ropes we skip.
Friends, lovers, society all a circ/e unending
Will never love me like the circle
that i kiss, race, laugh, embrace, and smirk with
With similar blood beating in bodies
Rocking to the heat waves from the July sun.
