3. True north’s true value

If you want to measure Canada’s real wealth and the sustainability of the economy, you should measure fresh-water quality, an air-quality index, greenhouse-gas emissions, and the extent of Canada’s forests. That’s the message from the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy. They urge Canada to become the first jurisdiction in the world to start using formal environment indicators to determine the country’s value. Stuart Smith, co-chair, hopes Paul Martin will act on these recommendations if he becomes Prime Minister.
